The Risk Analyst is a key member of the Line 1 Risk team for the Member Domain, supporting a range of operational risk responsibilities across incidents, breaches, controls, reporting and the GRC system. The role works within a dynamic and fast-paced environment, shaped by a complex regulatory landscape. 


Your New Role

Reporting to the Manager, Incidents, this role will support the Governance & Accountability team to ensure risk is managed in accordance with the Fund Enterprise Risk Management Framework. You will also help manage incidents and breaches in line with Fund and regulatory compliance obligations, support root cause analysis, and contribute to control enhancements and data integrity across risk reporting. 


Key duties include but not limited to;

  • Working directly with incident owners, conduct initial investigations and gather adequate information to understand the nature and impact of incidents so that appropriate decisions can be made at the management and resolution of incidents. 
  • Undertake root cause analysis and identify process or control improvement opportunities, where applicable. 
  • Help the business identify and develop sustainable and commercial solutions for implementation that mitigate further incidents occurring. 
  • Proactively monitor incidents to ensure they are appropriately managed, and all key activities have been completed within expected timeframes and to the required standard. 
  • Ensure incident and breach reporting data integrity to enable accurate reporting and assist with generating insights that will enable improved decision making. 
  • Execute control design and operating effectiveness testing including the identification and implementation of uplift recommendations. 
  • Identification and design of controls to mitigate risks and/or fulfill obligations. 
  • Assist in preparing periodic operational risk reporting and/or specific incident management reporting for various functions.

What You’ll Need

  • Experience in Operational Risk, Compliance, Internal or External Audit, or Fraud Management, preferably in superannuation or financial services. 
  • Experience in incident, breach and/or fraud management will be highly regarded. 
  • Working knowledge of risk and compliance frameworks, including incident and breach management. 
  • Good understanding of controls management practices, including root cause analysis.
  • Critical thinking, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate complex factual scenarios in an easily digestible manner. 
  • Strong written, oral communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present ideas, perspectives and issues to a range of audiences including non-risk colleagues, 2nd line colleagues and senior stakeholders
  • High level of personal integrity and the ability to professionally handle confidential matters.
  • Commercially astute, with the ability to offer pragmatic advice based on sound risk management principles.
  • Hold an accreditation in Risk Management from a recognised body like Risk Management Institute of Australasia (RMIA) or Governance Institute of Australia (GIA), or be willing to obtain one after joining AustralianSuper. 
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and translate external regulatory requirements to shape business outcomes.
