At Squiz, we are building a cloud-based Digital Experience Platform (DXP) designed to power complex content management, optimization tooling, and platform services.

We are looking for a Quality Engineer to help maintain and deliver a high-quality product through the use of effective quality processes for software development.

This role requires a well-established quality professional who actively contributes to quality standards and processes within the engineering team, with hands-on experience across both manual and automated testing.

The Team Dynamics

You’ll be part of a collaborative engineering environment where quality is embedded throughout the software development lifecycle. Reporting to the Head of Quality and working alongside Quality Engineers, Software Engineers and other stakeholders, you’ll contribute to testing, automation and continuous improvement across the Squiz DXP.

You’ll work as part of a supportive Quality team, providing guidance to Junior Quality Engineers while assisting Senior Quality Engineers with quality initiatives and technical testing activities. The role is hands-on and collaborative, with plenty of opportunity to contribute ideas, develop your technical skills and help shape how quality is delivered across the team.

This is a permanent position open to anyone living on the east coast of Australia. We operate on a flexible, hybrid model, meaning you can balance working from home and collaborating with the team in a way that actually works for you.

What the Work Looks Like Day-to-Day:
  • Help build out and maintain test automation suites managed by the Quality team, including our end-to-end (E2E) and UI testing frameworks.
  • Write effective test cases and complete manual testing for new features and major changes to the Squiz DXP.
  • Identify, investigate and report bugs and quality issues to engineering teams.
  • Work closely with engineering teams to reproduce issues, communicate defects clearly and validate bug fixes before release.
  • Assist engineering teams with validation and testing activities throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Develop and maintain automated tests using TypeScript and Playwright.
  • Use GitLab as part of the development, testing and delivery workflow.
  • Provide guidance and support to Junior Quality Engineers and assistance to Senior Quality Engineers.
  • Deliver work to agreed and accepted quality standards.
  • Provide accurate estimates of effort for quality and testing activities.
  • Apply best development and quality practices across all areas of your work.
  • Write and maintain clear and useful documentation relating to quality practices, processes and testing frameworks.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of quality processes, tools and practices within the engineering team.
  • Work within an Agile delivery environment, collaborating closely with engineers, product and other stakeholders.

What We Are Looking For:
  • 2+ years of experience working in Quality Engineering or Software Quality, with hands-on experience across both manual and automated testing.
  • Demonstrated experience identifying, investigating and reporting bugs to engineering teams, and validating bug fixes before release.
  • Practical experience with test automation, including UI and end-to-end testing.
  • Hands-on experience with TypeScript and Playwright
  • Experience using GitLab
  • Experience working within an Agile software development environment.
  • A continuous learning mindset and a willingness to quickly develop new skills. You’re inquisitive and curious, and always seek to understand the “why” behind a problem or decision.
  • The ability to engage effectively with internal stakeholders and build positive working relationships across teams.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to articulate yourself and your thought process clearly and confidently.
  • Demonstrable problem-solving, analytical and presentation skills, with a structured approach to identifying and resolving issues.
  • Effective time management and a logical, organised approach to delivering work.
  • A willingness to actively participate in forums, activities and workshops, both internally and externally.
  • A strong sense of ownership and accountability for your own work and outputs.

Nice to Have:
  • An understanding of Cloudflare and its role within modern web platforms and infrastructure.
  • Experience or familiarity with AWS services and cloud-based environments.
  • Experience using Jira

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
