Company Description

We welcome fearless thinkers.

For over 100 years, Maurice Blackburn has stood up for those who need us most. With courage and compassion, we extend access to justice to countless Australians. We look beyond the immediate challenge to support people in moments that matter across their lives, and continually push for better solutions for our clients. We invest in and empower our people to stand up for what we believe in and go fearlessly forward together.

We work on real cases, achieving important and positive results in real people’s lives, which is why we are one of Australia’s most respected law firms. Maurice Blackburn, experience you can count on.

About the role

Help turn strategy into action across one of Maurice Blackburn’s most important strategic programs.

We’re looking for a Program Manager who thrives on bringing structure to complexity, aligning people around what matters and turning strategy into tangible outcomes.

Sitting within our Innovation & Delivery team in Personal Legal Services, you’ll play a key role in driving the Personal Law Strategic Program. You’ll help shape and operate the program’s PMO capability, connect the dots across multiple initiatives, and give leaders a clear view of progress, priorities, risks, investment and benefits.

This isn’t a role where you’ll inherit a program plan and simply keep it updated. You’ll help shape how the program runs - establishing governance and reporting, building the integrated roadmap, and working across teams to keep priorities aligned and delivery moving.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll be at the centre of the program, working across Innovation & Delivery, Digital & Technology, Client Acquisition, our legal practices and Shared Services to bring teams, priorities and investments together.

You’ll:

  • Establish and run governance and PMO practices across the Personal Law Strategic Program
  • Build and maintain the integrated program roadmap, bringing together priorities, milestones and dependencies
  • Create clear, executive-ready reporting across progress, risks, issues, budgets and benefits
  • Help identify, track and ultimately realise the benefits behind our strategic investments
  • Coordinate priorities, dependencies and resource constraints across multiple projects and teams
  • Manage program forecasting, variance reporting and financial risks
  • Lead strategic initiatives from initiation through delivery and benefits realisation
  • Partner with our Change Management Practice to help ensure change is embedded and sustained
  • Influence teams and stakeholders across the business, often without formal authority

What you’ll bring

We’re looking for someone who can think beyond individual projects and operate confidently at a program level - balancing the big picture with the detail needed to keep delivery on track.

You’ll bring a strong background in program, project or PMO management, including experience establishing or building PMO capability across complex, multi-workstream programs.

You’ll also bring:

  • Strong program governance, planning and prioritisation skills
  • Experience managing meaningful program budgets, forecasts and financial risks
  • A track record of delivering measurable benefits against a business case
  • Confidence working directly with senior executives and leadership forums
  • The ability to build trust, create alignment and drive outcomes in a highly matrixed environment
  • Strong reporting, presentation and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience coordinating vendors or external partners as part of program delivery
  • Experience with tools such as Jira, Airtable, Confluence, Power BI, advanced Excel or similar
  • Practical experience using AI-enabled tools and automation to improve planning, reporting or analysis
  • Good judgement around privacy, security and confidentiality when delivering technology-enabled change

Experience in legal, professional services or another regulated environment would be valuable, as would Agile, PRINCE2, PMP or change management certification. But we’re just as interested in how you think, how you work with people and the outcomes you’ve delivered.

The kind of person who’ll thrive in this role

You can zoom out and see the whole program, then zoom back in when something needs attention.

You’re comfortable creating structure where it doesn’t yet exist. You ask the right questions, spot dependencies before they become problems, and can turn a messy set of updates into a clear story for an executive audience.

Most importantly, you know successful delivery isn’t just about hitting milestones. It’s about making sure the organisation achieves the outcomes and benefits it set out to deliver.

If you’re looking for a Program Manager role where you can shape how a major strategic program operates - and help turn ambitious plans into measurable outcomes - we’d love to hear from you.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
