About the role

Join Halter’s Production Engineering team to help build and scale world-class hardware manufacturing. This internship spans manufacturing process improvements and mechanical tooling/fixture design — you may focus on one area or work across both depending on project needs.

This internship will run from mid-to-late November 2026 and end in February 2027. It will be onsite & full-time 40 hours a week over this period.

What you’ll do

  • Support day-to-day manufacturing problem-solving on the floor (assembly + test): observe, collect data, and help run trials.

  • Design and build small mechanical fixtures/jigs and line-side improvements (in CAD and hands-on).

  • Help develop and validate process changes (pre/post comparisons, simple DOEs when appropriate).

  • Create and update work instructions, visuals, and training materials to improve consistency.

  • Support root cause analysis (5-why / fishbone) and implement assigned corrective actions.

  • Partner with Production, Quality, Supply Chain, and R&D to close feedback loops quickly.

  • Maintain tidy change documentation: what changed, when, why, and links to ECNs/incidents.

What we’re looking for

  • You’re studying Mechanical / Mechatronics / Manufacturing Engineering (or similar).

  • You like getting hands-on and learning fast in a real production environment.

  • You can communicate clearly and take pride in tidy documentation.

Nice to have

  • Basic GD&T and tolerance awareness.

  • Any exposure to manufacturing/process engineering, quality, or test/automation.

  • Experience with basic scripting/data tools (Excel/Sheets, Python) for analysis.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
