See yourself in our team
As a Principal Technology Product Owner, you’ll be accountable for building new services and safety capabilities owned by the Gen AI domain and used across CBA by crews to solve key customer needs. You will be responsible for deeply understanding the needs of our end customers and internal consumers, owning the roadmap of the products, and ensuring they help teams build, test, deploy and operate Gen AI applications safely at scale.
You will:
- Lead a cross-functional squad composed of engineers, data scientists, data analysts and specialists from areas across tech and business teams.
- Stay current with industry developments, emerging technologies and new products in AI safety, risk and governance, engaging with external researchers, peer organisations, technology partners and internal communities across data science, model risk and AI governance to identify emerging risks and practical approaches to safe adoption.
- Use your software delivery, data science, AI governance or NLP background to deeply understand customer needs, model behaviours, data considerations and the practical controls required for safe Gen AI delivery.
- Prioritise the crew backlog by balancing business partner demands, customer outcomes, risk profile and long-term sustainability of your products and services.
- Engage with risk teams to understand the frameworks and policies that guide the safe use of AI within the Group, and facilitate solutions that build resilience, model monitoring, evaluation, guardrails and assurance into the platform.
- Manage product delivery expectations and status reporting to technology, business, risk and governance stakeholders, while being accountable for the risks, costs & benefits of your platforms and services.
- Translate complex AI, data, privacy and control requirements into practical platform features, developer workflows and reusable patterns that accelerate delivery for teams across the bank.
- Be an ambassador in driving the Gen AI transformation across the bank, sharing safe delivery patterns, engaging with risk stewards to help them understand this new technology, and participating in the AI risk community in CBA to shape emerging approaches to governance.
We are interested in hearing from people who are:
- Deeply curious about emerging AI safety, evaluation, governance and platform technologies, and willing to put in the work required to stay current in a rapidly evolving field.
- Experienced in software delivery, data science, data engineering, AI governance, model risk, machine learning or natural language processing, with the curiosity to keep building depth as the field evolves.
- Passionate about building practical controls, guardrails and platform capabilities that allow teams to deliver Gen AI applications safely and at pace.
- Experienced in delivering complex, high-profile digital, data, AI or platform capability and services, and prioritising accordingly.
- Exceptional at stakeholder engagement, with strong attention to detail and the ability to communicate clearly with technology, business, risk, legal, privacy, cyber and data teams.
- Experienced at building or operationalising frameworks, standards, guidance, workflows, controls or developer tooling used by delivery teams.
- Customer-obsessed in always asking why, seeking out new evidence, and determining the unmet needs of your customers.
- Adept at leading cross-functional teams that build and scale AI-enabled systems, tools, frameworks or data products, and enthusiastic about challenging existing systems, data, processes and methods to improve the safety and reliability of Gen AI delivery.
