Principal Technology Product Owner - Gen AI, Responsible AI
*Sydney or Melbourne location*
You are an experienced Product Leader with a track record of owning technical products or platforms from strategy through to delivery. You're passionate about solving complex problems and excited by the opportunity to shape how Generative AI is safely adopted at enterprise scale.
You'll build the products, guardrails and evaluation capabilities that enable teams across CommBank to develop, deploy and operate AI solutions safely and with confidence. You'll combine strong product management with practical exposure to Generative AI or Responsible AI, and enough technical depth to partner effectively with engineers, data scientists and risk stakeholders.
Do work that matters
The GenAI Domain at CommBank is building the platforms, frameworks and reusable capabilities that enable teams across the Group to safely build, deploy and operate Generative AI and agentic solutions at enterprise scale.
You’ll own internal AI platform capabilities that are used by teams across the bank. These capabilities include AI guardrails, evaluation frameworks, monitoring solutions, agent safety controls and developer enablement tooling that help teams build and operate AI safely.
Our mission is to make safe AI adoption easier by providing reusable products, patterns and controls that accelerate delivery while meeting our Responsible AI commitments.
See yourself in our team
As a Principal Technology Product Owner, you'll own the strategy, roadmap and delivery of products that enable teams across CommBank to build, test, deploy and monitor Generative AI safely at scale.
You'll work closely with engineers, data scientists, product teams and risk stakeholders to understand customer needs, translate emerging AI risks into practical platform capabilities, and ensure our products create measurable value for internal customers.
Success in this role requires three core capabilities:
- Strong Product Management – experience with product discovery, roadmap ownership, prioritisation and delivery of complex technology products or platforms.
- Responsible Generative AI – practical experience with AI safety, evaluation, governance, monitoring, guardrails or similar capabilities.
- Technical credibility – the ability to engage confidently with engineers and data scientists and translate complex technical concepts into practical outcomes for business and risk stakeholders.
You will
- Own the product vision, strategy and roadmap for AI platform capabilities that support safe Generative AI delivery across the organisation.
- Understand the needs of internal customers through product discovery, stakeholder engagement, customer feedback and data-driven decision making.
- Lead a cross-functional squad of engineers, data scientists, analysts and specialists to deliver high-value platform capabilities.
- Prioritise the product backlog by balancing customer value, business priorities, technical complexity, delivery risk and long-term sustainability.
- Partner closely with engineering teams to deliver scalable products while maintaining a strong focus on developer experience.
- Work with Risk, Privacy, Legal and Governance teams to translate Responsible AI requirements into practical platform features, workflows and controls.
- Deliver capabilities such as AI guardrails, evaluation frameworks, monitoring, resilience and assurance mechanisms that improve the safety of Generative AI solutions.
- Stay current with developments in Generative AI, Responsible AI, agentic systems and emerging industry practices to continually evolve our products.
- Communicate complex AI concepts clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders, building alignment across engineering, business and governance communities.
- Help shape the future of Responsible AI across CommBank by sharing best practices and contributing to the evolution of AI governance and delivery standards.
We're interested in hearing from people who have
