The Principal Platform Engineer – Data Protection is a senior technical leader responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable, secure, and resilient data protection platforms in CBA’s On-prem and Cloud environments. This role operates at the intersection of architecture, engineering, and leadership, driving strategic initiatives and mentoring engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the design and delivery of data protection platforms, with a focus on storage and backup technologies.
Act as a technical lead and solution architect, guiding engineering teams through complex implementations.
Collaborate with vendors and internal stakeholders to ensure seamless integration and performance.
Drive automation and infrastructure-as-code practices using tools like Terraform and Ansible.
Ensure observability and monitoring capabilities are integrated (e.g., Grafana, Prometheus).
Maintain high standards of security, compliance, and operational excellence.
Provide technical mentorship and leadership across the Data Protection engineering team and Operations team
Participate in strategic planning and roadmap development for platform engineering.
Participate and drive high priority incident and problem management scenarios.
Required Skills & Experience
Significant experience in platform engineering, infrastructure, or related fields.
Deep expertise in storage and backup technologies, especially Commvault, Data Domain, Pure Storage, VMAX Storage
Strong understanding of cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and certification (Architect level ideal).
Strong understanding of On-prem VMware technology platforms and certification (Architect level is ideal).
Proficiency in automation and infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Ansible).
Experience with observability tools and monitoring integration.
Proven ability to lead technical teams and deliver complex solutions.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Strong professional attitude, integrity, and ability to work independently.
Desirable Qualifications
Experience with additional backup tools (e.g., Networker, Veam).
Exposure to DevSecOps practices and API development.
Familiarity with enterprise environments and vendor collaboration.
Desirable on products such as ECS, VXRAIL, Nutanix
