Job Description

  • Lead the engineering behind Jetstar’s customer journeys, from booking and payments to managing travel
  • Own cyber engineering and critical incident readiness across the digital estate
  • Permanent, hybrid opportunity based at Jetstar Headquarters in Docklands

As Principal Engineering Manager, CX & Resilience, you’ll lead software engineering across Jetstar’s customer journeys, together with the cyber engineering and resilience of our digital estate. Our platform Engineering Managers own the platforms. You’ll own the journeys that run across them, making sure change is engineered to one consistent standard and that security and resilience are built into how we engineer, not bolted on afterwards.

You’ll lead through four people managers: Engineering Managers for Payments, Identity & Memberships and for Cyber & Crit 1 Uplift, and Engineering Leads for our booking and travel journeys. Through them, you’ll direct most of Jetstar’s contracted engineering workforce.

In This Role You Will:

  • Lead engineering delivery across the booking, payments and travel journeys, holding your managers to account for what’s delivered, to what quality and when
  • Work with the platform Engineering Managers to sequence dependencies and surface conflicts early, not at release
  • Lead the cyber engineering program (vulnerability management, cloud security posture and supply chain exposure) and shift security left into how every journey team builds
  • Lead the Crit 1 uplift and hold engineering readiness for critical incidents (detection, escalation and recovery), driving root cause resolution, not just restoration
  • Lead leaders: coach your managers, hold them to account for their teams’ performance, and sponsor high-potential talent
  • Direct our contracted engineering partners, hold them to account for productivity and quality, and build permanent Jetstar capability over time
  • Lead adoption of AI-assisted and modern engineering practice across the journey teams

You Will Bring:

  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or Information Technology, or equivalent professional experience
  • 10+ years in software engineering, including leading through engineering managers
  • Engineering delivery accountability across multiple domains or squads
  • Cyber engineering: vulnerability management, cloud posture and secure-by-design practice
  • Critical incident readiness and recovery for high-criticality systems
  • Holding delivery partners to account across a large contracted workforce
  • Current technical credibility in modern and AI-assisted engineering practice
  • Desirable: experience in regulated payment and identity environments (PCI-DSS, fraud)

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
