We are on the hunt for an enthusiastic Planning Engineer to join us at our Clayton office! Reporting to the Planning Lead, the Planning Engineer supports Victorian Road Maintenance Contract (VRMC) Works planning, scheduling, preparation and dispatch, so tasks can be carried out “right first time, every time” by the Delivery Team. A committed team player who drives for service excellence and continuous improvement, the Planning Engineer will be based in our Network Intelligence & Operations Centre (NIOC), full-time at our Clayton office.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertaking all planning activities to achieve all daily, weekly and fortnightly works schedules in line with Section 750 PB requirements and approved maintenance programs,
  • Supporting other members of the Planning Team as directed by the Planning Lead to ensure the successful completion of all planning
  • Ensuring that all planning activities for work are completed in accordance with agreed metrics and as per the Transport Operating Model (TOM)
  • Creating all work packs, incorporating work instructions, HSE risk assessments/SWMS, environmental and quality requirements, traffic management and access requirements, location, scope and other information prior to releasing work packs for scheduling.
  • Developing labour, plant and materials requirements for each job in preparation of work packs and scheduling with the Work Management Information System (WMIS)
  • Developing assessment of qualified and equipped internal crews and delivery partners (subcontractors) to undertake work activities
  • Identifying jobs requiring additional input or scoping onsite to allow job planning and liaising with Inspectors and Delivery crews to gather missing information
  • Understanding contractual, specification, and system processes and procedures to ensure all planned work activities are compliant with applicable laws, regulations, and Service Stream processes
  • Engaging and managing approved/preferred local Delivery Partners to deliver Planned Maintenance Works, ensuring appropriate resourcing capacity and capability to deliver to the Program 

About You:

  • At least three years’ experience in a road maintenance or civil works environment, including at least two years’ experience carrying out detailed planning of maintenance and/or construction tasks on state or local road networks.
  • Experience with onboarding, planning, and coordination of subcontractor activities.
  • Managing various internal and external stakeholders with good communication skills.
  • Reading and interpretation of specification requirements in general.
  • Understanding of DTP Standard Sections with a particular emphasis on SS 750 is a bonus, not essential.
  • Detailed knowledge of work methodologies for road maintenance operations or equivalent activities, including safety, traffic management, access, permit and licensing requirements
  • Exceptional time-management skills and attention to detail in document control and data management
  • Sound understanding of asset management principles, underpinned by experience using work management information systems, GIS-based systems, planning and scheduling tools, and Office 365 applications
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, evidenced by productive working relationships with colleagues and delivery partners
  • A relentless focus on workforce, road user and community safety in your approach to all tasks
  • A current Victorian Driver’s License is mandatory.
  • Formal qualifications (bachelor’s degree or higher) in civil engineering or construction management are a bonus, but not essential if you can demonstrate equivalent knowledge and capability.
  • Chartered Engineering Status (CEng) are a bonus, but not essential
