About the role

We're looking for a motivated Paralegal to join our dedicated Abuse Law team on a full-time, permanent basis in our Melbourne CBD office.

This is an opportunity to do work that truly matters. You'll support a lawyer across a diverse and meaningful caseload, helping survivors of childhood sexual abuse seek justice while building your expertise in a highly specialised and evolving area of law.

Maurice Blackburn has been at the forefront of Abuse Law, advocating for survivors with compassion, integrity and purpose. If you're looking to grow your legal career in a supportive, high-performing team where your work makes a real difference, we'd love to hear from you.

  • Supporting case preparation and file management
  • Liaising with clients, counsel and other stakeholders
  • Conducting legal research and gathering evidence
  • Taking statements and assisting with investigations
  • Providing day-to-day support across a varied and complex caseload

Given the nature of this work, there will be times when you'll be exposed to challenging material. Your wellbeing is a priority, which is why our team has access to external psychological support, and training in managing vicarious trauma.

What we're looking for

You're organised, proactive and eager to learn. You thrive in a collaborative environment, enjoy working in a fast-paced practice and are passionate about delivering exceptional client service.

You'll bring:

  • Experience in a legal support role, such as a Legal Assistant, Law Clerk or Paralegal
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Confidence building relationships with clients and colleagues
  • Proficiency across the Microsoft Office suite
  • A genuine interest in developing your career in Abuse Law

At Maurice Blackburn, you'll work alongside people who are passionate about making a difference. For almost 100 years, we've stood up for people when it matters most—and we're always looking for people who share our commitment to fairness, courage and social justice.

If you're ready to build a rewarding career where your work creates meaningful change, we'd love to hear from you.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
