Risk Management ensures that the Group has appropriate strategies and frameworks in place to assess, manage and report on credit, market, operational, compliance and insurance risks.
 

The Risk Management team is a Line 2 team responsible for developing and deploying the Group’s risk frameworks to allow the Group to take conscious exposures to credit, market, operational, compliance and insurance risks within a Board-approved appetite.

We do this by:

  • Establishing frameworks to manage risks that are consistent with the Group’s business objectives;

  • Identifying, assessing and reporting risks to the Board, Risk and Audit Committees, Executive Committee and Business Units;

  • Assessing the impact of proposed changes in laws, regulations and industry codes; and

  • Working collaboratively with the Business Units to achieve the optimal risk and return outcomes for the Group within the risk appetite approved by the Board.

The Operational Risk team is a Line 2 team which supports the Retail Banking Services (RBS) business within the Group. The team is responsible for:

  • Monitoring and challenging the RBS business lines to ensure the appropriate consideration of operational risks and the alignment with regulatory expectations and industry changes;

  • Partnering with RBS aligned operational risk teams (Line 1) to ensure the effective deployment of operational risk management practices within RBS;

  • Providing subject matter expertise to key stakeholders on managing material operational and emerging risks;

  • Development and deployment of operational risk frameworks, policies and processes; and

  • Collaborating with broader Line 2 risk teams across the Group to drive consistency and quality in deliverables.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading, coaching and motivating a small team of risk professionals (Manager and Analyst).

  • Maintaining strong relationships with business, Line 1 Risk, Group Operational Risk and Audit partners;

  • Providing advice on operational risk considerations including in relation to major RBS projects with a high degree of technology change.

  • Review and assurance activities (which may come in the form of risk advisory, risk reviews or assurance) leveraging data & analytics practice where applicable to identify potential risks and gaps. 

  • Providing various operational risk reports and dashboards enriched with data visualisation, and attending various risk governance forums; and

  • Partnering with other Risk Management functions in the Group to ensure any changes to the framework are consistently embedded within RBS.

We're interested in hearing from people who have:

  • Proven experience in the financial services industry in a risk/regulatory capacity, with demonstrated ability/appetite to quickly upskill in emerging technologies such as AI, cybersecurity, cloud adapting to changing technological landscapes.  

  • Sound experience in banking and finance retail products coupled with strong analytical skills, and interested in transitioning into risk management;

  • Demonstrated leadership experience.  Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, providing balanced risk advice with commercial pragmatism;

  • Knowledge/experience in the use of data analytics on assurance review; Demonstrated proficiency in common analytics tools (SQL, R, Python, Tableau, PowerBI etc) and demonstrated intuitive understanding of data & its implications;

  • Experienced in compiling, preparation and writing of management reports, board papers and board reports.
