About You

You are an experienced property, facilities or construction professional who enjoys delivering practical solutions in a fast-paced environment. Rather than managing a small number of large capital projects, you thrive on delivering a diverse portfolio of complex campus improvements and refurbishment works that make an immediate difference to students and staff. You enjoy the challenge of balancing multiple priorities, working closely with stakeholders, and finding practical pathways to deliver outcomes safely, efficiently and with a strong customer focus.

You are equally comfortable discussing requirements with end users, coordinating consultants and contractors, and managing project delivery from concept through to completion. You bring strong judgement, a solutions-focused mindset and the ability to tailor project approaches to suit the size, complexity and risk profile of each project.

This role would suit someone who enjoys variety, stakeholder engagement and visible outcomes, and who is motivated by delivering projects that continually improve the University's places and spaces.

To be successful in this position, you’ll have as a minimum:

  • Demonstrated experience delivering multiple construction or fit-out projects concurrently within a complex organisation
  • Proven ability to manage project delivery to time, cost and quality objectives, including contractor and consultant management
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to manage expectations and communicate clearly across diverse groups
  • Experience in applying practical, fit-for-purpose project management approaches, scaled to project size and complexity
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and manage project risks and resolve issues in a proactive and pragmatic manner
  • Experience in financial management of projects, including budgeting, cost control and reporting
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, with the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Knowledge of relevant property, construction and regulatory requirements (e.g.  BCA, OH&S, building regulations)
  • Ability to work within a defined governance framework, including recognising when to escalate to senior management

Please Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children and National Police Check.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
