Media Relations Specialist

Great stories deserve to be told.

At Australian Venue Co., we're home to some of Australia's and New Zealand's most recognised pubs, bars, restaurants and entertainment venues. With hundreds of venues and an exciting pipeline of openings, renovations and major campaigns, we're looking for an experienced Media Relations Specialist to help put our stories in front of the right audiences.

This is a newly created opportunity to join our Brand & Communications team and play a key role in shaping how AVC is represented across consumer, hospitality, lifestyle and business media.

You'll be the person building relationships with journalists, identifying newsworthy opportunities, crafting compelling pitches and securing meaningful earned media coverage across our diverse portfolio.

What you'll be doing

No two days will look the same. One day you could be launching a newly renovated pub, the next coordinating media for a major event, pitching a lifestyle feature or managing a fast-moving media enquiry.

You'll:

  • Build and nurture strong relationships with journalists across Australia and New Zealand.
  • Identify stories that people genuinely want to read, watch and share.
  • Pitch media opportunities that generate quality earned coverage.
  • Develop media releases, briefing notes and supporting content.
  • Work closely with marketing, operations and venue teams to bring campaigns to life.
  • Track media coverage, identify trends and measure the impact of PR activity.
About you

You're a natural storyteller who understands what makes a great media angle and knows how to turn ideas into coverage.

You'll bring:

  • Proven experience in media relations, public relations or communications.
  • Strong existing media contacts, or the ability to quickly build trusted relationships.
  • Outstanding writing skills and a sharp news sense.
  • Experience managing multiple campaigns and competing priorities.
  • Confidence working with internal stakeholders and senior leaders.
  • A proactive, organised and solutions-focused approach.

Experience within hospitality, food & beverage, lifestyle, travel or consumer brands will be highly regarded.

Why Australian Venue Co.?

Joining AVC means becoming part of one of Australasia's fastest-growing hospitality groups. You'll have the opportunity to work on high-profile venue launches, major campaigns and some of the country's most recognisable hospitality brands while helping shape the public profile of a business that's constantly evolving.

We offer:

  • A newly created role with genuine opportunity to make your mark.
  • A collaborative and supportive Brand & Communications team.
  • Exposure to an exciting portfolio of venues and brands across Australia and New Zealand.
  • Ongoing career development within a growing national business.
  • Melbourne Head Office location with a vibrant team culture.
  • Enjoy staff discounts across the entire portfolio

If you're passionate about storytelling, thrive on building relationships and love securing media coverage that makes an impact, we'd love to hear from you.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
