The candidate will work to maintain, install, document and customise the mainframe operating system and installed software. The candidate will be required to diagnose system and performance problems, execute configuration changes, implement vendor-supplied software and work on project-related tasks.

Technical Delivery:
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Provide technical support to clients and other client service lines.

  • Perform z/OS systems programming activities and coordinate project resources needed to complete software maintenance and installation schedules.

  • Ensure software is operating at supported and optimised levels.

  • Work with z/OS administrators to analyse and resolve root cause issues.

  • Provide on-call support as required for products supported by the team.

  • Plan, support, and manage the installation and execution of infrastructure and vendor-supplied software products for the mainframe environment.

  • Partake in planning and establishing best practices for the z/OS COTS vendor product environments.

  • Analyse technical system changes and improvements made to the system software to determine impacts related to existing systems and guarantee continued operations and availability of systems.

Knowledge and skills required:

  • Solid z/OS Operating System installation and maintenance.

  • Proficient in JCL coding skills, REXX and HLASM programming languages.

  • Solid problem determination and resolution skills for operating system and program products, with an understanding of system monitoring tools.

  • Experienced in supporting multiple client mainframe workloads.

  • Understanding of z/OS services structure, JES concepts, sysplex configuration, Unix System Services, Comm Server (VTAM, TCP/IP, system catalogue structures, and IODF/HCD).

  • Solid understanding of Disaster Recovery planning. Experienced in administering 3rd Party vendor print packages.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • 5+ years of experience in this role
