About the role  

 

Provides legal advice and support across a broad range of commercial, governance, operational, and regulatory matters. Partners with business stakeholders and senior legal professionals to manage legal risk, support sound governance practices, and deliver practical legal solutions that enable Vanguard's business objectives. 

Core Responsibilities  

  • Advises on a broad range of commercial and operational matters, including procurement activities and commercial contracting arrangements.   

  • Supports the Company Secretary in relation to governance matters, including reviewing Board and Committee papers, attending meetings, and liaising with senior stakeholders on governance related matters. Assists with the review and resolution of day-to-day operational, risk and legal issues arising in the business, including interpretation of legal documentation, policy and procedure issues, and contractual disputes.   

  • Reviews and prepares legal documents and correspondence.  

  • Conducts independent research, investigation and analysis to support legal activities and contribute to the resolution of legal matters.   

  • Develops expertise in applicable areas of the law, Vanguard's business and products, and the investment industry. Stays abreast of industry and regulatory developments affecting Vanguard.   

  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.  

  • Supports the team’s use of technology to improve processes and increase productivity.

Qualifications  

  • Law Degree   

  • Some previous experience (2-4 years PQE) in a law firm or similar in-house role focused on commercial law or corporate governance 

  • Exposure to the financial services industry is advantageous but not essential  

  • Exposure to AI and legal technology solutions preferred
