This is your opportunity to join as a Legal Counsel (Privacy) on a Fixed Term contract, working with a wide range of stakeholders to provide privacy legal advice and coordinate a variety of privacy compliance activities.

Job Description

What you’ll do


  • Provide practical privacy law advice to the Australian business.
  • Develop and implement privacy policies, procedures and training predominantly in the Australian business.
  • Conduct privacy impact assessments and report on risks.
  • Support the implementation of a data scanning and consent management tool.
  • Conduct regular audits and assessments and take corrective action when necessary.
  • Investigate and responding to privacy incidents.
  • Work closely the Risk and Data teams and with a group of Privacy Champions across the business.
  • Stay up to date with privacy laws and regulations.
  • Liaise with overseas privacy functions as needed.

Qualifications

What we are looking for?

  • Demonstrated inclusive and interpersonal attributes that connect you to our behaviours (we change the game, we own it, we step in, we are curious, we don’t take ourselves too seriously).
  • Strong experience as a lawyer in the privacy space.
  • Unrestricted Australian practising certificate.
  • Experience in contract drafting and negotiation.
  • Sound knowledge of recent Australian Privacy Act reforms.
  • Ability to create privacy training material.
  • Ability to manage privacy-related compliance activities.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with data mapping tools or consent management platforms viewed favourably.
  • Exposure to international jurisdictions, international privacy compliance and frameworks (particularly GDPR and CCPA) and technology businesses viewed favourably.
  • Experience with privacy audits, gap analysis and follow-up, together with privacy tools and practices viewed favourably.
