Want to bring ideas to life?

Aurecon is a leading design, engineering and advisory company – but why should you choose to join us? Every project Aurecon delivers leaves a legacy. Every project has sustainability embedded in decision‑making and every project is at the leading edge of technical eminence. If you’re looking for a fresh challenge, why choose Aurecon? It comes down to one crucial question: What kind of world do you want to create for the next generation? The truth is, the decisions being made right now will determine the future of everything – from the local community to the entire planet. One of those decisions is: who do you decide to work for?

How will your ideas contribute to shaping what’s next?

As a Lead Process Engineer joining our expanding Victorian Water Team, you’ll help shape resilient and sustainable water and wastewater infrastructure. You’ll play a key leadership role across complex, city‑shaping projects, including major treatment plants, network upgrades, pumping facilities and broader water programs.

Here are the key things you will do to ‘bring ideas to life’:

  • Lead and contribute to the development of process designs, including PFDs, P&IDs, mass balances, modelling and design documentation.
  • Oversee concept design, detailed design and provide construction and commissioning support.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship and guidance to junior process engineers across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated, constructible and sustainable solutions.
  • Lead strategic planning investigations to identify innovative, low‑carbon and future‑focused solutions for resource recovery in a circular economy
  • Build and maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships, supporting business development and tender submissions.
  • Ensure quality, accuracy and risk management across all project deliverables.

What we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical, Process or Environmental Engineering. Chartership (or progress toward it) is desirable.
  • Extensive experience in process engineering for water and wastewater infrastructure, ideally within a consulting environment.
  • Strong capability in process design, including development of PFDs, P&IDs, mass balances and modelling.
  • Broad understanding of physical, chemical and biological treatment processes, and familiarity with relevant water quality guidelines (ADWG).
  • Experience contributing to or leading the design of water/wastewater infrastructure projects, ideally including exposure to Design & Construct delivery models.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • A collaborative, proactive approach to problem‑solving, innovation and technical excellence.
  • Commissioning experience (highly regarded).

How will your future be shaped by us?

Joining Aurecon means you’ll be at the award-winning edge of innovation and sustainability. AFR ranked us Top 5 among sustainability leaders and Top 3 of all innovative companies in professional services. One Consult awarded us an innovative design award. Plus, we were Consult Australia’s large firm of the year.

On a personal level you’ll have access to flexible work hours, remote work, part-time and job share options. You’ll continue to grow, thanks to learning and development opportunities that further your eminence, leadership, and professional accreditations. Outside of work, you’ll be further supported with competitive paid parental leave, cultural public holiday swaps, plus wellbeing support programmes.

Who is Aurecon?

Aurecon’s strength has always been our people. It’s our people who build our shared purpose and bring ideas to life. It’s our people who imagine and co-create with our clients a better future for people and the planet. Of course, you’ll probably know lots of our award-winning projects. The new Allianz Stadium in Sydney? That was us. Tāmaki Regeneration in Auckland? That was us too. And the Tseung Kwan O Interchange in Hong Kong? You guessed it, us. So, when you join us, you’ll be joining a community working together to tackle some of the world’s most complex challenges.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
