The opportunity

The Lead Business Analyst brings deep subject matter expertise in Wealth Management and Superannuation and is responsible for consulting with business and technology leaders to create their strategy and associated delivery roadmaps. You'll have a comprehensive understanding of the Business Analysis practices, own and drive the analysis process for the North Platform and form a business analysis community centred around continuous improvement.

Description of division and business unit

The North Platforms Technology team sits within the Technology division within AMP. 

The North Platforms Technology team provides full lifecycle management of the North platform which is one of the leading Wrap platforms in the Wealth market. The capability within the team is very diverse with specialised skillset and deep knowledge within the Wealth Industry. Roles within the team cover Strategic Planning, Business and Systems Analysis, Development, Architecture, Testing, and Production Support. 

We work very closely with our business partners across the Client Services, Digital and Adviser Experience, Product, Distribution, Marketing, and other finance areas and have deep appreciation of how Technology plays a pivotal role in helping these partners achieve successful outcomes. 

About the role:

  • Business partnerships and strategy development. Consult with technology and business leaders to create solutions to drive the delivery of their strategy
  • Responsible for leading and directing analysis activities for an initiative, including leading the work of Business Analysts within a delivery squad.
  • Custodian of the Business Analysis practice, processes and tools, forming a community of practice to oversee and improve the way Business Analysis is performed.
  • Govern and oversee a delivery squad's analysis, documentation and processes follow set out standards, are of the highest quality (balancing efficiency) and maintain consistency over time and across the team.
  • Drive continuous improvement in the delivery team's analysis output and provides constructive feedback and coaching to the team that fosters ongoing improvement.
  • Lead delivery risk assessment and is responsible for identifying, raising, reporting and mitigating risks involved in and discovered through analysis activities.
  • Lead the adoption of business agility, and delivery within an Agile framework, facilitating ceremonies (e.g. standups, retros) ensuring progress and continuous improvement.
  • Part of the values stream leadership team working with Delivery Managers, Project Managers and Tech Leads in analysis planning, tracking and reporting activity from project and squad through to portfolio level.
  • Leads the business in forming scope and initial estimates for new development ideas and proposals, contributing deep knowledge and coordinating technical experts where needed.
  • Actively engages in analysis while also coordinating analysis work across the Business Analysis team to navigate complex challenges and enable efficient and effective delivery. Supports hiring and responsible for onboarding Business Analysts through mentoring and ‘buddying’.
  • As Lead Business Analyst, reporting into the Delivery Manager, you will be responsible for creating and defining innovative solutions and leading the work of for team of Business Analysts. 
  • As a leader in creating solutions to meet business problems, you'll be a key person for value streams their business executives and leadership teams.

About you:

  • 8+ years of experience of consulting and leading business analysis into large programs, technology or software development teams in the delivery of systems within the financial industry.
  • Deep experience and knowledge of the Wrap, Superannuation and Investment Platform markets.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering innovation solutions into technology and business functions.
  • Strong experience as a Senior/Lead BA on large programs of work leading other BA’s
  • Demonstrated experience consulting to create business and technology strategy in Platforms, Wealth Management or Superannuation.
  • Experience working across the end-to-end software development life cycle (SDLC) within Agile environments.
  • Demonstrated experience working in both Agile and Waterfall software delivery models.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications and relevant industry experience.

Job Specific capabilities required:

  • Consult with executive and senior technology and business teams to understand their objectives and guide in delivery of solutions on the platform.
  • Strong Analytical capabilities, leading by example in producing high quality deliverables.
  • Expert risk management to identify and manage project risk and issues.
  • Strong focus on application of best practice software development and business analysis practices.
  • Ability to lead and inspire teams to deliver successful outcomes.
  • Deep understanding of Waterfall and Agile methodologies, able to blend and apply a best fit, as well as perform activities.
  • Understanding and supporting the full software development lifecycle, with an ability to advise and coach.
  • Organised and structured approach to managing a portfolio of work.
  • Ability to identify and manage project risk and issues.
  • Experienced in using JIRA, Confluence & SQL based tools.
  • Business partnerships ensuring deep understanding of business strategy, direction and fostering productive relationships with leadership.
  • Ensure you have a strong internal network covering all technology teams (including development portfolios and architecture).
  • Builds effective relationships with 3rd party suppliers and other technology departments who deliver application or supporting platform infrastructure to North.
