Planet Innovation (PI) is an award-winning medtech contract design and manufacturing company. We partner with leading global healthcare organisations and high-growth start-ups to create innovations that improve patient outcomes. Headquartered in Melbourne, with a growing presence in Irvine, California, we are experiencing strong demand for our consulting services across our client base.
We're looking for a broad, hands-on People & Culture Advisor to join our close-knit team. This is a newly created, true generalist role - one day you might be helping a manager work through a tricky people question, the next you're building a training module or standing in front of a room delivering it, including at our Irvine, CA site.
You'll report to the People & Culture Manager, who stays closely involved in day-to-day employee relations across the business. That means this role is less about deep ER specialism and more about strong, well-rounded generalist capability - someone who's comfortable across the full employee lifecycle and willing to build new skills, particularly in learning & development, as they go.
What you'll be doing:

Generalist HR support

  • Be a hands-on HR point of contact for the Australian business across the full employee lifecycle
  • Provide practical, day-to-day advice to people managers, using sound judgement on when to resolve directly and when to escalate
  • Support delivery of broader HR initiatives and projects
  • Build strong working relationships across the business so people see you as an approachable, reliable presence
Learning & development
  • Deliver L&D programs across our sites, including leadership capability, compliance and role-specific training
  • Build and maintain a rolling L&D calendar aligned to business needs and identified skills gaps
  • Design training content and materials - workshops, e-learning, facilitator guides in collaboration with the People & Culture Manager, partnering with external providers where necessary
  • Travel to and facilitate face-to-face L&D sessions at our Irvine site
  • Manage Talent administration and tracking in HiBob (Talent Module)

 What you’ll bring:
  • 3–5 years' HR generalist experience with strong, broad exposure across the employee lifecycle
  • Exposure to employee relations matters (grievances, performance management or similar) is valued - if you don't have deep casework experience but bring strong generalist judgement and coachability, we'd still love to hear from you
  • Experience designing or delivering training/L&D content and/or genuine willingness and aptitude to build this skill on the job matters just as much
  • A tertiary qualification in HR, business or a related discipline is preferred but not essential if you bring the relevant experience
  • Experience with an HRIS (HiBob experience is an advantage)
  • Practical working knowledge of Australian employment law (Fair Work Act, NES, Modern Awards)
  • A genuine "doer" mindset, you'd rather build and deliver than only advise or coordinate
  • A confident, engaging communicator and facilitator, able to run a room and adapt your style for different audiences
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally, including multi-day trips to the US and Asia-Pacific, as initiatives require

What we offer:
  • A collaborative, inclusive culture where your contributions are valued from day one.
  • A supportive team in our Box Hill facility with the tools and processes to help you succeed and grow.
  • 6 weeks paid Parental leave
  • Community service leave
  • Fresh fruit and barista coffee machines
  • Employee Assistance Program with free confidential counselling sessions
  • Annual flu shots

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
