About the role
We’re seeking a Java Engineer to build and enhance high-performance, real-time cloud services that power our core tolling infrastructure.
You’ll join the EVA (Event Acquisition) Team, a highly technical group responsible for processing live roadside signals in the cloud and converting them into accurate tolling transactions.
As our Java Engineer, you’ll contribute to mission-critical infrastructure that must be fast, reliable and resilient. This is complex, domain-specific engineering work with a clear pathway to technical ownership and growth.
Day-to-day, you will:
• Develop and enhance Java-based services that processes millions of real-time roadside messages in the cloud.
• Build and maintain robust, high performing, cloud-based systems using a microservices-style architectures.
• Integrate new roadside signals, toll points, lanes and hardware upgrades into our event acquisition systems.
• Design and implement logic that interprets signal combinations to generate toll trips and charges.
• Work with queue-based processing systems to ensure high performance and reliability.
• Contribute to cloud deployments using cloud friendly infrastructure-as-code tools.
• Support system enhancements as new roads and infrastructure projects go live.
• Collaborate closely with the Tech Lead and Engineering Manager in a focused two-stage interview process.
This role will suit someone with a curious mind and transferable skills and experiences, including:
• Strong Java development experience (2–5+ years), ideally in real-time or high-throughput systems.
• Experience working with AWS (Lambda, cloud-native environments).
• Exposure to microservices and queue-based architectures.
• Background in financial systems, high-speed transaction platforms, or metering environments (highly regarded).
• Ability to work on complex, domain-specific systems that require fast learning and adaptability.
• A genuine passion for engineering and desire to grow into a future system owner/technical lead.
