We are seeking a highly analytical and data-driven Integrity Engineer to take ownership of our Refinery On-Stream Piping Inspection Program and help strengthen the long-term integrity, reliability, and safety of refinery assets.

Job Description

In this role, you will act as a key technical advisor to our Asset teams, providing technical leadership on piping integrity matters and contribute to refinery reliability, risk management and shutdown planning activities. You will play a critical role in maintaining plant reliability by responding to equipment issues, supporting breakdown events, and developing condition-based repair and replacement strategies.

Reporting to the Senior Materials & Corrosion Engineer, this role will lead the development, implementation, execution, and continuous improvement of the refinery's on-stream piping inspection program in accordance with AS 3788 and refinery integrity management requirements.

This is a critical role that has been created to address a growing need for dedicated ownership of inspection and integrity data. With the increasing volume and complexity of inspection records, corrosion monitoring information, and integrity data we require a specialist engineer focused on extracting value from many data points and translating them into meaningful integrity outcomes.

As the subject matter expert for piping inspection data and integrity trends, you will work primarily from the office, analysing inspection results, identifying degradation patterns, improving inspection effectiveness, and ensuring refinery piping systems remain safe, compliant, reliable, and fit for service.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Refinery On-Stream Piping Inspection Program in accordance with AS 3788 and refinery integrity management requirements.
  • Manage, maintain and continuously improve the integrity inspection database, ensuring the quality, accuracy, and completeness of inspection records.
  • Analyse large volumes of inspection, corrosion monitoring, thickness measurement, and condition assessment data to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.
  • Develop and optimise risk-based inspection strategies for refinery piping systems.
  • Provide technical engineering support to ensure refinery piping systems remain safe, compliant, reliable, and fit for service.
  • Support the Inspection Team in delivering effective inspection programs, risk management activities, and asset integrity outcomes across the refinery.
  • Review inspection findings and assess degradation mechanisms affecting refinery piping systems.
  • Evaluate corrosion rates, remaining life calculations, and inspection effectiveness to support proactive asset management.
  • Provide engineering recommendations based on data analysis and integrity risk assessments.
  • Support refinery shutdowns, turnarounds, and inspection planning activities as required.
  • Prepare technical reports, integrity assessments, and recommendations for stakeholders.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on inspection efficiency, data quality, risk management, and reliability performance.
  • Collaborate closely with Inspection, Operations, Maintenance, Engineering and Reliability teams to achieve asset integrity objectives.

Qualifications

You are a detail-oriented engineer who enjoys working with data, identifying trends, and solving complex asset integrity challenges. You thrive in an analytical environment and have the ability to turn large datasets into practical engineering decisions that improve safety, reliability, and risk management outcomes.

To succeed in this role, you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Materials, Metallurgical, Chemical, or related Engineering discipline. Minimum 2 years' experience within refining, petrochemical, oil and gas, or other continuous process industries. Demonstrated experience in pressure piping integrity management and inspection programs.
  • Strong understanding of refinery piping degradation mechanisms and corrosion processes.
  • Working knowledge of AS 3788.
  • Working knowledge of API 570, API 571, API 579, API 580 and relevant pressure equipment regulations. Experience interpreting inspection data, corrosion monitoring information, and developing inspection strategies. Experience supporting refinery shutdowns and turnaround inspection activities is desirable.
  • Experience working with integrity management systems, inspection databases, and large asset datasets. Strong analytical and reporting skills with a passion for data-driven decision making.

Desirable Certifications

  • API 570 Piping Inspector Certification.
  • API 580 Risk-Based Inspection Certification.
  • AMPP / NACE Corrosion Certifications.

What Success Looks Like

  • A well-governed, accurate, and trusted inspection database.
  • Improved visibility of piping integrity risks and degradation trends.
  • Optimised inspection strategies that focus resources on the highest-risk assets.
  • Enhanced compliance with refinery integrity management requirements.
  • Improved reliability, safety, and integrity performance of refinery piping systems.

Our Values & Behaviours

The successful candidate will:

  • Demonstrate ownership and accountability for asset integrity outcomes.
  • Use sound engineering judgement and risk-based decision making.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve inspection effectiveness and asset reliability.
  • Collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Maintain a strong continuous improvement mindset.
  • Uphold the highest standards of technical integrity, professionalism, and safety leadership.

If you are passionate about asset integrity, enjoy working with large datasets, and want to play a key role in improving refinery reliability and risk management, we would love to hear from you.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
