About Halter

At Halter, we’re on a mission to enable farmers and graziers to run the most productive and sustainable operations. Our customers are using Halter to break free from the time-intensive constraints of conventional practices. Imagine watching 500 cattle stand up and walk calmly towards their next break? It's changing lives and transforming an industry. People join Halter to do meaningful work. By joining us you’ll be solving challenging problems within a talented team and a culture built for high performance. Our team out-think, out-work and out-care. We’re committed to delivering real change in the world - this isn’t easy, and in truth, we love that it’s hard.

We’re backed to deliver on a mission that matters by Tier 1 investors including Founders Fund, Bessemer Venture Partners, BOND, DCVC, Blackbird, Promus Ventures, Rocket Lab’s Peter Beck and Icehouse ventures.

We're looking for an Integration Engineer to own the technical partnerships that connect Halter to the broader farming ecosystem — designing, building, and maintaining the integrations that let data flow between Halter and the platforms farmers already rely on.

You'll work closely with product, backend, and data teams, but you'll also be outward-facing: on calls with partner engineering teams, navigating different data-sharing frameworks across NZ, Australia, and the US, and figuring out how to ship something useful with a partner who has one engineer and competing priorities. You'll own problems end-to-end. If you want your work to make farm data more valuable across an entire industry, this is the role for you.

What you’ll be responsible for
  • Design, build, and maintain integrations with partner platforms — herd management systems, financial tools, compliance databases, on-farm hardware — so data from partners flows reliably into Halter.

  • Work with product to prioritise which integrations unlock the most farmer value — and which ones create strategic leverage for Halter.

  • Be the technical point of contact for integration partners from discovery through launch and ongoing support. You own the relationship.

  • Build developer documentation, sandbox environments, and reference implementations that make it easy for partners to ship.

  • Navigate the regulatory and data-sharing landscape across NZ, Australia, and the US. Each market has different traceability frameworks, compliance requirements, and ecosystem players.

  • Champion data quality at integration boundaries — validation, monitoring, alerting — so mismatches surface before they cause problems on farm.

  • Feed partner insights back into engineering and product. Advocate for platform and data model changes changes that make Halter more integration-friendly.

  • Help grow the integrations function as the partner ecosystem expands.

Who we’re looking for
  • You've built and maintained API integrations between SaaS platforms. REST, OAuth, webhooks, event-driven patterns — you've worked on the producing side, the consuming side, or both.

  • You're confident with data modelling at system boundaries — mapping between schemas, handling inconsistencies, maintaining integrity across systems that were never designed to talk to each other.

  • You're familiar with cloud infrastructure, ideally AWS. We use Go on the backend, deployed as microservices, but similar stacks translate well.

  • You're pragmatic. Some partners have modern APIs and dedicated platform teams. Others have CSV exports and one developer doing three jobs. You build the bridge that works today and iterate from there.

  • You're patient with long cycles. An integration with a farmer-owned cooperative or a government compliance body can take months of back-and-forth with teams that have competing priorities and limited bandwidth. You keep momentum going through follow-ups, relationship building, and quiet consistency.

  • You know how to influence without authority. You can't control a partner's roadmap or resourcing. You build champions inside their org, make it easy for them to say yes, and find ways to unblock things when priorities don't align.

  • You think about integrations as a business lever. You have instincts about which ones create stickiness, which reduce churn, which open new markets, and which are table stakes — and you back those instincts up with evidence.

  • You're comfortable as the external face of Halter's engineering — on calls with partner CTOs, at industry events, occasionally on farms. You represent technical credibility while being genuinely approachable.

  • You collaborate well across teams inside Halter too. Integrations touch backend, data, firmware, and product. You navigate that with clear communication and generous context sharing.

  • Bonus points for ag-tech, IoT, or any domain where hardware meets software meets messy real-world operations. What matters most is that you get energy from making things work between organisations, not just within one.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
