About the Role:

The Instructional Design Specialist is responsible for designing, developing, and evaluating engaging learning solutions that support CDC’s goals and enhance employee capability. This role combines expertise in learning principles, instructional design methodologies, and digital technologies to deliver effective learning experiences across various modes, including face-to-face, online, and blended environments.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Consult with stakeholders to identify learning needs and performance gaps.
  • Design and develop engaging instructional materials (e-learning, guides, workbooks, assessments).
  • Apply learning theories and instructional design models to create effective, learner-focused solutions.
  • Manage and curate digital content using LMS platforms and authoring tools.
  • Facilitate training sessions and workshops, both in-person and online.
  • Evaluate programs through feedback and data analysis for continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with SMEs and People & Culture to ensure accuracy and relevance of content.
  • Stay updated on trends in learning technology and instructional design.
  • Ensure all materials are accessible, inclusive, and compliant with policies and legislation.
  • Oversee and continuously improve the CDC Academy and L&D systems.

About you: 

You’re an experienced Instructional Designer with a strong track record of creating impactful learning content across diverse tools and materials. You’ll bring your expertise with e-learning tools to help us implement and maximise a new platform, leveraging your knowledge to enhance content and create innovative learning experiences.

Working closely with our L&D specialists, you’ll elevate all learning experiences, including our established CDC Academy, by introducing fresh ideas and creative approaches to enhance our employee engagement. You love thinking outside the box, especially when simplifying complex technical concepts into clear, learner-friendly solutions.

Please note, we require a design portfolio to be considered for this role.


  • Experience facilitating training sessions and workshops, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Skilled in designing innovative learning solutions, including mobile and microlearning environments, with a creative approach to problem-solving.
  • Knowledge of Australian workplace learning standards and compliance requirements, paired with a pragmatic, outcome-focused mindset.
  • Comfortable working at both design and process levels, and hands-on when needed to deliver effective learning experiences.

Australian Citizenship is essential - with the ability to obtain and maintain an NV1 Security Clearance.
