Our Client

Hooker & Heijden are proud to have been exclusively appointed to represent an ambitious brokerage in their search to secure an exceptional and respected insurance broking professional, to be appointed as their Head of Strata. With strengths in SME, Mid-Market and Specialty Segments, this brokerage has experienced phenomenal growth over the past few years, doubling GWP under management and expanding their presence to include most Australian States. The successful applicant will join the flagship branch of this business with an ambitious and collaborative culture.


The Role

This is a key role within the Victorian Branch and the business nationally, establishing a specialist Strata division within the business. You will work closely with the GM and other key stakeholders interstate to drive the delivery of best in class insurance outcomes and insurance risk transfer solutions to the strata sector. As the successful applicant you will:

  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders to deliver the best possible outcome for clients with a focus on revenue generation through New Business and the delivery of the full range of our client’s capabilities.
  • Maintaining strategic relationships with insurance carrier partners in all key markets and successfully negotiating appropriate risk transfer and placement solutions based on individual client risk profile.
  • Monitor and review your own portfolio in support of a robust compliance, regulatory and legislative climate and helping support clients and colleagues in support of great client outcomes across both General lines and ideally the Professional Services lines of Insurance..
  • Take a “national” view on risk, representing a key voice with regard to the development of a Strata portfolio performance.
  • Participation in key speaking opportunities at industry events in Victoria to raise awareness of our client’s brand and capabilities in the strata space.
  • Hands in processing of strata new business, renewals and policy document preparation and maintenance.
  • Ensure provision of excellent service to clients and the highest quality input to insurers including quoting renewals, processing of endorsements/amendments, preparing correspondence between our clients and underwriters, updating reports, premium calculations and allocations where required at the client’s direction.
  • Working with and evolving our “Strategic Projects” – supporting value-add through supply chain evaluation and support/constantly monitoring our platform of client added-value that links proactively to enhancing client experience ie 3rd party support, risk mitigation partners and the like.


Skills and Experience that will lead to success

  • Strong technical understanding of Strata insurance.
  • Strong relationships in the Strata Industry that you can leverage off.
  • Ideally, several years (10+) leadership experience and confident in supporting a culture of accountability, ownership and transparency.
  • A keen entrepreneurial spirit and flair for business development with excellent cross-selling abilities
  • Highly self-motivated to take ownership and accountability for development and execution of relationships at a senior level.
  • Excellent market management relationships in the market already, including both Insurers, Underwriting Agencies and ideally, Lloyds and London markets.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Team Player who works well with others, in support of a national focus on the General lines of business but also comfortable with helping nurture and support others in support of a focused approach to Professional Services
  • Post Graduate/Diploma or Degree in Bus/Finance/Commerce plus qualifications in accordance with the Financial Services Reform Act (minimum Tier 1 Broking Compliance) would be expected; individuals from an underwriting background would be welcome to apply.
