About the Role

Reporting to the Chief Client Officer the Head of Business Development is a critical role in our Clients and Markets team.

This appointment is responsible for leading the Business Development (BD) function and partnering with the Chief Client Officer to shape and embed a business development strategy aligned to the firm's broader client and growth agenda. 

Combining strategic thinking with a hands-on approach, this position will empower leaders to win, grow, and retain high-value client relationships, embedding a consistent, disciplined, and client-centric approach to market engagement.

Responsibilities:

  • Shape and embed the business development strategy, ensuring alignment to BDO’s client and growth agenda, and go-to-market framework.

  • Establish best practice sales methodologies to identify opportunities, drive client development, and build capability aligned to firm priorities.

  • Develop and drive a Priority Account Program, collaborating with industry and service line leaders to establish accounting planning, growth strategies and KPIs.  

  • Transform BD to a strategic function that drives commercial outcomes and contributes insight, market intelligence, and business development expertise.

  • Support the development of BD performance frameworks, fostering a growth culture across the firm.

  • Lead, develop, and inspire a high-performing BD team, including the BD Directors, fostering clear direction, strong collaboration, and shared accountability for BD and sales outcomes across offices and sectors

  • Develop and implement a structured approach to pipeline and opportunity management.

  • Utilise data, market insights, and digital tools (CRM/AI) to identify trends, anticipate needs and position the firm as a leader in key markets.

  • Deliver learning and capability programs to grow strategic sales skills, conversions, and client-centric behaviours across the firm.

  • Coach and support leaders with business development planning, client engagement, and delivery.

  • Foster connectivity between business development and marketing teams to create increased visibility, shared priorities, and aligned go-to-market strategies.

  • Embed continuous improvement activities across the business development function, leveraging client feedback, engagement reviews, win/loss analysis, and market insights.

  • Leverage firm-wide and industry relationships to strengthen networks and drive opportunities.

About You

The successful candidate will possess a proven track record, operating in a senior role responsible for leading business development and client strategy within a professional services environment.
You will have demonstrated experience managing large and complex accounts, with proven success in the design and execution of BD-led go-to-market strategies in a partnership model.
 

Your ability to influence and coach senior leaders will be essential to build internal business development capability and uplift commercial skills in client facing teams.

Strong commercial acumen and strategic thinking is essential, combined with the ability to translate market intelligence and client insights into actionable growth strategies.

A background leading and shaping a high-performing Business Development function is desired.
