The Major Client Group (MCG) serves more than 1,600 of Australia's largest businesses, providing tailored banking and financing solutions to clients with revenues exceeding $150 million and lending requirements ranging from $50 million to $750 million.
The Corporate Finance team is an integral part of MCG, leading complex event-driven and transformational opportunities for clients across diversified industries. Deploying more than $3 billion of new capital annually, the team partners with customers and relationship teams to deliver strategic financing solutions that support growth, acquisitions, recapitalisations, and other significant corporate events.
Do work that matters
Reporting to the General Manager Corporate Finance, you will lead the Victorian team of 6 specialised Corporate Finance professionals responsible for originating, structuring, and executing some of the largest and most complex transactions across the MCG portfolio.
As a senior leader within Business Banking, you will play a critical role in driving growth across the franchise through strong client engagement, market leadership, and transaction execution excellence. You will work closely with MCG Relationship Executives nationally, identifying opportunities within existing client portfolios while building strong connections across the M&A, Debt Advisory and broader corporate finance market.
This role extends beyond transaction execution. You will be responsible for driving balance sheet optimisation, distribution strategy and portfolio management outcomes while ensuring the Corporate Finance business continues to deliver exceptional customer outcomes, strong risk management, and sustainable growth.
Equally important is your role as a people leader. You will lead and develop a Victorian team of high-performing specialists, creating a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Your ability to coach, provide meaningful feedback, navigate complex stakeholder discussions, and build capability across the team will be critical to your success.
Your Responsibilities
- Lead the Victorian team of 6 specialised Corporate Finance professionals to deliver exceptional outcomes for Business Banking customers on structured and complex transactions.
- Be a crucial member of both the Corprpate Finance national LT and wider Victorian MCG Lat.
- Build the MCG franchise through strong market engagement, customer leadership, and strategic relationship management.
- Drive the origination, structuring, balance sheet management, and distribution of Corporate Finance transactions to optimise customer and portfolio outcomes.
- Effectively manage and execute the Corporate Finance transaction pipeline to meet customer requirements and timelines while supporting the Bank's customer experience goals.
- Oversee transaction execution and maintain strong partnerships with Line 2 Credit to ensure robust risk management and governance outcomes.
- Provide market-leading insights and industry expertise to support credit decision making, capital allocation and transaction structuring.
- Be the face of Corporate Finance within the M&A and Debt Advisory Victoria markets, generating new transaction opportunities and strengthening market presence.
- Partner with internal stakeholders and distribution teams to maximise syndication opportunities and optimise risk-adjusted returns.
- Support the ongoing evolution of the Corporate Finance strategy, client engagement model, and market proposition.
- Foster a high-performance culture through coaching, mentoring, and leadership development.
We're interested in hearing from people who have
- Significant leadership experience within Corporate Finance, Leveraged Finance, Structured Finance, Debt Advisory, Investment Banking, or a related institutional banking environment.
- A proven track record leading large teams and delivering commercial outcomes in complex, client-facing businesses.
- Deep expertise in structuring, executing, distributing, and managing complex credit transactions and corporate lending portfolios.
- Strong understanding of balance sheet management, capital allocation, portfolio optimisation, and risk-adjusted returns.
- Significant experience engaging with debt advisors, institutional investors, syndication partners, and senior corporate executives.
- Exceptional stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate across a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated capability in coaching and developing high-performing teams, delivering effective feedback, and managing complex conversations with confidence and authenticity.
- Strong commercial acumen supported by sound judgement, strategic thinking, and substantial transaction execution experience.
- Comprehensive understanding of risk management and governance within complex financial services environments.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Finance, Business, Economics, Accounting, or a related discipline. Postgraduate qualifications such as an MBA, CFA, CA, or CPA will be highly regarded.
