About Vanguard

50 years ago, John C. Bogle had a vision to start an investment company that did things differently. A company with no external shareholders. Where all the profits were invested back into the business and used to lower costs. Evidently, it was as bold as it was brilliant. To this day, Vanguard Group still has no external shareholders. That means no share prices to protect, and no profits to generate for outside owners.

Today, Vanguard is one of the world’s largest investment management companies, serving more than 50 million investors worldwide. For more than 30 years Vanguard Australia has been supporting individual investors, financial advisers, and superannuation members to achieve their long-term financial goals.

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key leadership role within a globally evolving Corporate Security function. As part of our Global Physical Security modernisation and globalisation strategy, we are strengthening our regional operating model to enhance security operations, improve resilience, and support business growth across our international footprint.

You will lead security operations across an assigned region, providing strategic direction, operational leadership, and expert guidance to protect our people, workplaces, and assets. You will work closely with senior business leaders and key stakeholders to drive security excellence, influence decision-making, and deliver a consistent, proactive, and risk-based approach to security management.

This is a highly visible role offering the opportunity to shape regional security strategy, lead transformational initiatives, and contribute to the continued evolution of a global security function.

What it takes

  • Significant experience in Corporate Security, Physical Security, Risk Management, or a related field within a complex, multi-site or global organisation

  • Proven leadership experience, with the ability to develop high-performing teams and effectively manage third-party security providers

  • Strong expertise in security risk management, incident response, investigations, and crisis management

  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships across all levels of the organisation and with external partners

  • A strategic and solutions-focused mindset, with experience driving change, continuous improvement, and operational excellence

Inclusion Statement

Vanguard’s continued commitment to diversity and inclusion is firmly rooted in our culture. Every decision we make to best serve our clients, crew (internally employees are referred to as crew), and communities is guided by one simple statement: “Do the right thing.”

We believe that a critical aspect of doing the right thing requires building diverse, inclusive, and highly effective teams of individuals who are as unique as the clients they serve. We empower our crew to contribute their distinct strengths to achieving Vanguard’s core purpose through our values.

When all crew members feel valued and included, our ability to collaborate and innovate is amplified, and we are united in delivering on Vanguard’s core purpose.

Vanguard Australia is proud to hold the Employer of Choice for Gender Equality (EOCGE) citation, awarded by WGEA, recognising our strong commitment to gender equality and our dedication to inclusive policies, gender balanced outcomes and a safe, respectful workplace.

Our core purpose: To take a stand for all investors, to treat them fairly, and to give them the best chance for investment success.

Special Factors

  • Vanguard is not offering visa sponsorship for this position

  • This is a hybrid position and would require you to work in the office 3 days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday)

  • Please note that we review applications on a rolling basis and may close this role early if there is a high level of interest. To avoid missing out, we recommend applying as soon as possible

How We Work

Vanguard has implemented a hybrid working model for the majority of our crew members, designed to capture the benefits of enhanced flexibility while enabling in-person learning, collaboration, and connection. We believe our mission-driven and highly collaborative culture is a critical enabler to support long-term client outcomes and enrich the employee experience.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
