This structured 1-year program is specifically designed to cultivate the next generation of specialists for our Data Science & Model Predictive Control (MPC) team. The program includes comprehensive classroom training and job rotations across various functions to provide a well-rounded experience. While you will have the opportunity to select your first rotation to broaden your skillset, the program culminates in a permanent placement within our industry-leading MPC team.

You will initially report to the Regional Training Business Manager, AP, and will be based in our Perth office with a hybrid work model. Upon successful completion of the training program, you will transition into the MPC team and report to the MPC Engineering Manager. This role will focus on your long-term professional growth, providing specialised training and skill development to support critical projects in Australia and around the world.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Actively engage and demonstrate a strong learning aptitude throughout the 1-year training program.

  • Leverage the training and job rotation opportunities to develop and demonstrate your capabilities.

  • Following the 16-week program out of Singapore and your initial rotation, you will be placed in the MPC team for ongoing, longer-term training and specialist skillset development.

  • Upon joining the MPC team, you will work under the guidance of senior engineers to support the full lifecycle of our advanced control projects. Your responsibilities will include:

Assisting with technical project activities, including preliminary design, system integration, and site installation support.

Performing data analysis, supporting the development of mathematical models, and assisting with the configuration of online applications.

Supporting the commissioning of MPC applications at customer sites to ensure project success.

Helping to identify and document technical issues that may impact project performance.

Providing support to existing customers by performing system health checks, analysing application performance, and contributing to reports that document findings and recommendations.

Supporting the documentation of best practices to contribute to the team's knowledge base.

Collaborating with the team to sustain and maximise the value our applications deliver to our customers.

The Essentials - You Will Have:

  • A Bachelor of Engineering degree (graduating class of 2025) specialising in Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, Chemical, Process Control, or a related field.

  • Recent graduate or less than 12 months of professional experience.

  • A strong foundation in core engineering principles.

  • A keen interest in data science, machine learning, and automation and control systems.

  • Availability to travel to customer sites for industrial automation project implementation after completing the training.

  • Ability to commence employment within 60 days (tentatively by 15th March 2026).

  • The role requires the ability to travel up to <25% of the time, once the Singapore training is complete.

The Preferred - You Might Also Have:

  • An analytical approach to programming and the development of automation solutions.

  • Relevant industry certifications, internships, or innovative project experience.

  • An experimental mindset, creativity, and a passion for delivering innovative solutions.

  • Understanding of computer science fundamentals and programming languages (e.g., Python, C++, etc.).

What We Offer:

Our comprehensive benefits package includes:

  •  16 weeks of immersive classroom training in Singapore during your first year.

  • Comprehensive mindfulness programs with a premium membership to Calm.

  • Paid volunteer time off after 6 months of employment.

  • A company volunteer and donation matching program.

  • An Employee Assistance Program.

  • Personalised wellbeing programs through our OnTrack initiative.

  • An on-demand digital course library for continuous professional development.

  • ... and other local benefits!

At Rockwell Automation, we are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace. If you are excited about this role but your experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification, we encourage you to apply. You may be the right candidate for this or other opportunities.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
