The BCS program combines both developmental and off the shelf hardware and software to provide world leading communications capability for users. It can be rapidly deployed from anywhere, and its modular design provides a flexible, scalable solution that can be customised for various mission needs.

This role will see you applying your hardware skills to either our core product, upgrading the capability to integrate with related maritime communications projects, or modernisation of the joint air battlespace management system.

Responsibilities
- Design electronics solutions.
- Integrate electronic assemblies together.
- Develop engineering documentation and configuration management of system hardware.
- Work with the project team to ensure the engineering scope is delivered within the cost and schedule constraints of the project, adhering to quality guidelines.
- Communicate and collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team, in a conscientious way.
Experience/Qualifications
Essential:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
- Applicants must be Australian Citizens to meet defence security requirements.
- Experience in electronic system design with high speed digital routing, including schematic capture and printed circuit board design, using CAD software such as Altium Designer. Experience includes at least some of:
- Microcontrollers, regulators, FPGAs, PCIe, input protection, Ethernet, PoE, USB, COMe, discrete logic, standard electronics communication protocols (UART, SPI, I2C, etc), RAM, DisplayPort and SoC.
- Experienced in the use of electrical test and measurement equipment such as oscilloscopes, multi-meters, electronic loads and power supplies.
- Soldering skills under a microscope with 0402 components and fine pitch ICs.
- Rework and debugging skills on PCBs.
- Experience with soldering irons and hot air guns for soldering.
- Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ, Electrical) in Electrical Engineering, or eligibility to obtain.
Desirable:
- Experience in the development of work instructions and test procedures for the periodic testing for electrical safety of electrical systems.
- Knowledge of firmware, software and how they may be impacted by electronics designs.
- Experience with batteries interfacing with electronics, including battery management systems.
- Experience in Electrical System Design and Development through to Production, and compliance with Australian and Defence standards.
- Proven experience in providing direction and/or delegating work effectively within engineering teams to ensure project objectives are met.
- Knowledge of Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) considerations with respect to electrical/electronic design (e.g., wire harness design, grounding and shielding design techniques, lightning protection).
- Experience in development of production drawings and materials for the production of Cable & Wire Harnesses.
- Ability to collaborate with mechanical and software teams.
