Job Description

Role Overview

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Cost Manager to support the delivery of cost management services across various construction projects from project inception through completion.

The successful candidate will assist in cost planning, procurement, budgeting, tender management, cost reporting, and commercial administration activities while working closely with senior team members and project stakeholders. This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop technical, commercial, and client management skills within a professional cost consultancy environment.

 

Key Responsibilities

Cost Planning & Estimating

  • Assist in the preparation of feasibility estimates, cost plans, budgets, and benchmarking exercises.
  • Support the development and maintenance of project cost plans throughout various design stages.
  • Assist in reviewing design information and identifying potential cost implications.
  • Contribute to value engineering exercises and cost optimization initiatives.
  • Support cost analysis and market research activities.

Procurement & Tender Management

  • Prepare tender documentation, bills of quantities, and procurement packages.
  • Assist with tender administration, tender evaluations, and commercial assessments.
  • Review contractor and supplier quotations for completeness and compliance with project requirements.
  • Support procurement activities and contract award recommendations.
  • Maintain procurement records and tender documentation.

Cost Control & Commercial Management

  • Assist in monitoring project budgets, forecasts, and expenditures.
  • Support change management processes, including tracking variations and cost movements.
  • Prepare cost reports, cash flow forecasts, and commercial updates.
  • Review interim payment applications and assist in valuation processes.
  • Support final account preparation and close-out activities.

Post-Contract Cost Management

  • Support the administration of contracts during project delivery.
  • Assist in assessing variations, change requests, and payment applications.
  • Monitor project costs against approved budgets and identify potential cost risks.
  • Support the preparation of cost reports, forecasts, and financial updates.
  • Assist with final account reviews and project close-out activities.

Client & Stakeholder Support

  • Participate in client meetings, project workshops, and commercial reviews.
  • Support the preparation of presentations, reports, and commercial recommendations.
  • Liaise with clients, consultants, contractors, and project stakeholders under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Maintain effective working relationships while delivering a high standard of professional service.

Project Administration & Reporting

  • Maintain project cost records, procurement documentation, and commercial reports.
  • Ensure project information is accurately tracked and updated.
  • Support cost management systems, reporting processes, and project governance requirements.
  • Assist in developing cost databases and benchmarking information.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Quantity Surveying, Cost Management, Construction Management, Building Surveying, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of quantity surveying and construction cost management principles.
  • 2-5 years of experience in Quantity Surveying, Cost Management, or Construction Consultancy.
  • Experience supporting both pre-contract and post-contract services is preferred.
  • Consultancy experience is highly preferred, although candidates from contractor environments with strong cost planning exposure are encouraged to apply.
