Make a Difference

The Domain Specialist provides, hands‑on technical expertise across Network and Domain Engineering, ensuring Telstra’s network platforms, applications and services are designed, engineered and operated to deliver secure, reliable and high‑performing customer experiences.

This role will focus on the systems used for Voice Scam Prevention within the network including improving processes and detection capabilities for Scam prevention. The role focuses on analysts, networking, DevOps and engineering excellence within Telstra’s Autonomous Network and Domain Engineering environment. The role leverage off network insights and connects network infrastructure, cloud platforms and operational processes to deliver seamless end‑to‑end service outcomes to help prevent scam traffic across our network. Advanced analytics or intelligent tooling may be leveraged where they support engineering and operational decisions; however, accountability remains firmly anchored in core network engineering outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

This is how you’ll bring the purpose of your role to life.

  • Supports and Designs and delivers secure, scalable network and software solutions aligned to Telstra’s Autonomous Network objectives.

  • Improves network outcomes through automation, standardisation and DevOps practices, reducing manual effort and operational risk.

  • Understanding of fraud / scam behavioral modelling and pattern detection, large-scale call data analysis, embedding regulatory obligations into operational controls.

  • Understanding of Network elements involved in Voice scam detection

  • Works effectively with engineering, product and operations teams to translate requirements into deployable solutions.

  • Support the team in scam prevention detection and provide clear, actionable guidance.

Network & Domain Engineering

  • Support the design, develop and implement advanced scam detection solutions across Telstra’s network domains (voice focus).

  • Support the team in ensuring that the network components, platforms and applications interact reliably with Telstra processes to deliver consistent customer experiences.

  • Support the team to solve complex engineering or Scam prevention problems across network, platform and application layers.

DevOps, Automation & Delivery

  • Contribute to DevOps practices, including CI/CD, configuration management and automated deployment.

  • Machine Learning & Statistical Modelling Supervised & unsupervised learning, NLP, feature engineering (temporal & behavioral), ensemble methods, experimentation & A/B testing, statistical modelling, developing end-to-end ML lifecycles.

Reliability, Security & Operations

  • Support operational readiness through documentation, configuration management and support processes.

Collaboration & Technical Leadership

  • Work closely with Mission Technical Product Owners and Product Managers to shape and prioritize product requirements.

About you
To be successful in the role, you'll bring skills and experience in:

Capabilities

  • Network and software engineering capability in complex environments.

  • Analytics, Automation, scripting and DevOps skills.

  • Excellent problem‑solving and troubleshooting ability.

  • Clear communication skills.

Technical Knowledge

  • Understanding of telecommunications networks, including mobile core and 5G technologies.

  • Understanding of Tech Stacks, Splunk (SPL), Power BI, Git.

  • Working knowledge of observability, monitoring and data‑enabled engineering approaches as they apply to network operations.

Systems

  • SPLUNK, NUMBAT, SMSC (SpamShield), MMSC (MessageWatch) – and knowledge of IMS is needed but not actively supporting / updating IMS config

Experience

  • Strong understanding of telecommunications networks, including mobile core and systems used for scam prevention

  • Stakeholder engagement and cross functional collaboration, shaping business problems into scalable network data and insight solutions, with designs aligned to regulatory and governance expectations.

  • Proven delivery within Agile and DevOps teams.

  • Experience working in large‑scale, regulated telecommunications environments.
