Business Overview
Our Clients & Strategy team covers Business Development, Investor Relations, External Relations, Sustainable Investment and Brand, Marketing & Communications, including Internal Communications.
It is responsible for all communications to investor prospects, existing investors and their asset consultants, as well as a broad range of other stakeholders, including governments and media.
The Role
The Director, Government Relations role will report to the Executive Director, Public Affairs. An exceptional leader, you will play an important role in achieving outcomes across these functions, working collaboratively across the team and with other internal and external stakeholders.
Activities critical to this role include:
- Developing and executing strategies for government relations and public policy advocacy in Australia.
- Building and enhancing trusted relationships at the federal, state and local level with political stakeholders, policy decision-makers and influencers, government departments and agencies, to promote awareness of IFM and its purpose, advance our public policy advocacy priorities and manage political and regulatory risks and opportunities in the Australian market.
- Representing IFM to external stakeholders and preparing IFM executives to engage effectively with external stakeholders.
- Providing advice to and working constructively with IFM investment teams, other business units and external advisers in Australia and globally to align our work with business objectives, understand the impact of policy and regulation on the business.
- Work collaboratively with shareholders, investors, industry bodies and advocacy organisations to help develop collective positions and strategies and advance common interests.
Your Background and Experience
- 10+ years’ experience in a policy, political, government relations, public
- affairs or advocacy role
- Experience in government adviser roles, or government relations or public affairs roles in superannuation, financial services, member-based organisations or a portfolio relevant to IFM’s operations will be valued.
- Sophisticated understanding of the Australian superannuation eco-system including the political, stakeholder and policy environment in which IFM Investors operates
- A detailed understanding of key political actors, structures, legislative and policy development processes through which decisions are made.
- Strong networks across Australian politics and/or policymaking, regulatory or industry bodies.
- Strong advocacy and influencing skills and experience successfully representing and negotiating including with regulators, politicians, and other policymakers.
