Leads multidisciplinary design delivery for large renewable energy projects from feasibility through construction support. Manages design scope, schedules, resources, quality, risks, compliance, stakeholder coordination, and technical interfaces across solar, wind, BESS, hybrid renewable, transmission, substation, and grid connection projects. Works closely with clients, contractors, utilities, regulators, project directors, and discipline leads to deliver designs within budget, schedule, safety, and project requirements.

Role description:
We are seeking an experienced Design Manager to join our Renewables team to meet the demands of our strong and growing pipeline of work. As the Design Manager you will lead and manage the multi-disciplinary design delivery process across complex renewables projects and be accountable for delivering high quality design outcomes that meet the scope, budget, program and safety requirements of the project.
You will have a proactive client focused mindset, with a best-for-project approach to delivery. You will contribute to our team’s success in delivering projects across utility-scale solar, wind, battery energy storage (BESS), hybrid renewable energy and associated transmission infrastructure projects.
Role accountabilities:
- Lead integrated, multi-disciplinary teams through complex project phases from feasibility and concept design through detailed design and construction support.
- Transform project brief requirements into a delivery strategy and design schedule
- Manage the design scope and progress of designs ensuring deadlines are met
- Day to day liaison with client, external stakeholders and key discipline leads from project team(s)
- Lead the multi-disciplinary design and coordination of Arcadis project team and ensure a high degree of coordination between disciplines for interfacing with external design consultants or stakeholders
- Provide oversight and adherence to Arcadis’ quality and documentation processes to manage risks, change and tracking of key design decisions
- Monitor and coordinate project resources to meet program requirements and alignment with design scope
- Manage compliance of design to project requirements and applicable standards
- Providing project teams with design leadership and technical guidance
- Manage and lead key discipline leads to ensure consistent design output, and liaising with the Project Director to ensure design meets overall project and client expectations
- Liaising with the client’s Project Manager to ensure works are delivered to their expectation.
Qualifications & Experience:
- A strong project and design management background (ideally 10+ years’) working on major/large-scale renewable projects and proven track record of successfully delivering these projects
- A background in technical design delivery
- Experience working with renewable energy developers, owners, contractors and delivery partners across a range of contractual arrangements.
- Ability to negotiate, influence and communicate technical knowledge to a range of stakeholders, including renewable energy developers, D&C/EPC contractors, utilities, government agencies and regulators to deliver best-for-project outcomes.
- Sound commercial background, including familiarity with contractual conditions and procedures, including ability to assess risk to complement overall project leadership team.
- Experience in managing and working large multi-disciplinary teams
- Proven knowledge and understanding of inter-disciplinary design dependencies and impacts for project delivery.
- Experience delivering projects involving high-voltage transmission, substations or grid connection infrastructure would be highly regarded.
