About the role 

Reporting to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Design and Social Context, the Dean, School of Property, Construction and Project Management provides strategic, academic and operational leadership of a leading School in the Asia-Pacific region. Accountable for the School’s strategic direction and overall performance, the Dean leads excellence across teaching and learning, research, student experience, financial sustainability, people leadership and industry and community engagement.  

The School of Property, Construction and Project Management is a premier provider of Construction Management, Project Management and Property programs, recognised for its strong industry partnerships and globally connected education and research. With extensive engagement across industry through structured programs and partnerships, the School delivers practice-oriented, interdisciplinary learning and research that responds to current and emerging sector needs.  

As a key member of the College Executive, the Dean leads the School Executive to shape and deliver the School’s strategic vision, ensuring alignment with College and University priorities. The role is responsible for fostering a high-performing, inclusive and innovative academic environment, strengthening research and educational impact, and advancing the School’s profile and partnerships locally, nationally and internationally.  

This is an opportunity to lead a School with deep industry engagement, while shaping future-focused education, interdisciplinary research and engagement in the property, construction and project management sectors. 

Key priorities 

  • Lead the strategic direction, performance and long-term sustainability of the School, aligned to College and University priorities  

  • Provide academic leadership across teaching, learning and research, strengthening quality, impact and reputation  

  • Foster an inclusive, high-quality learning environment that supports student success, retention and employability  

  • Strengthen research excellence through a collaborative, interdisciplinary and high-performing research culture  

  • Foster interdisciplinary collaboration by proactively engaging with colleagues across different disciplines 

  • Drive industry, community and external engagement, building strong partnerships and work-integrated learning opportunities  

  • Advance the School’s profile and market position locally, nationally and internationally  

  • Lead accreditation and regulatory compliance, ensuring strong governance and quality assurance  

  • Provide strategic oversight of financial performance, resource allocation and operational outcomes 

  • Build and lead a high-performing, inclusive workforce, fostering capability, development and engagement 

  • Contribute as a member of the College Executive to shared priorities and University-wide initiatives 

 

To be successful in this role, you will bring: 

  • Proven senior academic leadership experience within a university, delivering academic excellence and organisational performance 

  • Significant academic and/or professional standing in disciplines relevant to property, construction or project management  

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic plans in complex environments, balancing academic and financial performance 

  • Strong track record of building excellence in teaching, learning and research, including interdisciplinary collaboration 

  • Demonstrated research capability and ability to grow impact in collaboration with industry and government  

  • Deep understanding of the construction and property sector, including regulatory requirements  

  • Proven ability to build strong external partnerships across industry, community and professional bodies  

  • Outstanding stakeholder engagement, communication and influencing skills  

  • Strong people leadership capability and experience leading high-performing teams  

  • A PhD in a relevant discipline and academic standing aligned with RMIT Professorial criteria
