About the role:
We are looking for a Data Scientist to join our Data, AI and Loyalty Team at Bunnings!
This role plays a key part in advancing the company’s AI transformation by designing, developing and operationalising machine learning models that drive business value.
Data Scientists at Bunnings contribute to scalable analytics solutions using platforms such as Snowflake and Azure and involves collaborating across teams to embed data science into decision-making processes.
What's Involved:
Design, build and deploy machine learning and optimisation models that support better decisions across the whole business, and then automate these models using batch and on-demand processes.
Analyse data using simple and complex models to measure statistical effects and improve decision quality.
Write Python applications that enrich data at key decision points across the business, looking for the point of leverage where complex mathematics supports operational outcomes.
Collaborate closely with the Data, AI and Loyalty Team, business stakeholders, and present insights and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Who we’re looking for:
Our ideal candidate will have a passion for solving complex problems through data, demonstrated by strong academic results or research publications.
You will be comfortable applying master’s level statistical techniques, such as inverse propensity score weighting, to address business challenges.
You love abstracting away complex systems into simpler models.
You will bring strong written and verbal communication skills and superior problem solving, analytical and conceptual skills.
In addition, the ability to work collaboratively, and be able to commit to delivering on schedule against agreed deadlines.
You’ll Need:
Qualification in Mathematics, Economics, Business Analytics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science or other quantitative discipline, ideally Postgraduate.
Strong programming skills and knowledge of software design best practices, including knowledge of git workflows, CI/CD and working with automated deployments.
Experience in experimental design, predictive, and prescriptive analytics.
High proficiency in Python and SQL
Experience working with LLMs to improve personal engineering productivity
Ability to deliver material business value from data in a retail operations context
