We are seeking a talented individual to join our Data team at Mercer. This role will be based in Melbourne or Sydney. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.

As a Data Architect, you will be an integral part of a collaborative team working together to design and implement data solutions that drive meaningful impact across Mercer. Partnering closely with Solution Architects, Portfolio Delivery Leads, and cross-functional teams, you will help shape the Persistence, Integration and Services layers of business solutions in alignment with our architecture principles and standards.
We will count on you to:
- Define and formalise data domains for the LOBs to enable standardisation, security-by-design and accelerated solution delivery that benefits the wider organisation
- Collaborate with business and technology leads to develop and maintain data models and catalogues that support transparency and collective ownership
- Establish and own Logical and Physical data models for Mercer, fostering shared understanding and reuse across teams
- Promote a shift-left mindset by partnering with stakeholders to maintain business data terms, critical data elements and business rules with shared accountability
- Empower development teams by providing clear architectural guidance and supporting them to deliver solutions with autonomy and confidence
- Guide your architectural designs through MMC’s onboarding and assurance processes, ensuring alignment with organisational standards and collective goals
- Actively participate in architecture reviews and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing
- Support implementation efforts by working alongside infrastructure and development teams, ensuring smooth delivery and adoption of architectural solutions
- Champion emerging technologies and industry trends, inspiring innovation and collaboration across the internal technology community
What you need to have:
- Expert domain knowledge with a collaborative approach to sharing expertise
- Strong ability to translate business needs into data architecture, conceptual, Logical and Physical data model designs that serve collective objectives
- Deep understanding of integration design patterns and end user data product and analytics solutions, with a focus on enabling team success
- Self-motivated and proactive, thriving in a hybrid environment that values open communication and teamwork
- Skilled at engaging with business and technical stakeholders at all levels to foster alignment and shared purpose
- Proven experience designing and communicating solutions that are traceable to requirements and support team goals
- Curious and innovative mindset, eager to explore and implement new technologies, data architecture and optimised ingestion patterns collaboratively
- Support data governance framework adoption by working closely with business and technology SMEs to ensure compliance, security, completeness and quality of information assets
What makes you stand out:
- Significant experience with integration technologies
- Proficiency with data modelling tools
- Extensive experience with data architecture design and implementation in complex data transformation programs including lakehouse/delta lake architecture, Vector Databases or Graph Databases, traditional RDBMS
- Experience with metadata management platforms such as Collibra, Informatica, AXON, EDC, or Metadata PaaS platforms such as Boomi or Fivetran
- Expertise in secure data services architecture, Secure By Design concepts, Microservices, Structured SQL and query patterns
- Familiarity with containerisation/Kubernetes, Secure DevOps, Application Performance Monitoring (APM) techniques, and SDLC methodologies including Agile, Hybrid and Waterfall
