Company Description

We welcome fearless thinkers.

For over 100 years, Maurice Blackburn has stood up for those who need us most. With courage and compassion, we extend access to justice to countless Australians. We look beyond the immediate challenge to support people in moments that matter across their lives, and continually push for better solutions for our clients. We invest in and empower our people to stand up for what we believe in and go fearlessly forward together.

We work on real cases, achieving important and positive results in real people’s lives, which is why we are one of Australia’s most respected law firms. Maurice Blackburn, experience you can count on.

This is an opportunity to shape how Australia's largest plaintiff law firm learns, grows and leads.

The opportunity:

Join a firm where analytics has a genuine seat at the table, your insights won't sit in a report nobody reads, they'll shape how one of Australia's leading law firms makes decisions. You'll work alongside a collaborative Digital & Technology team and get direct exposure to senior leadership from day one.

We are looking for an experienced, hands-on analytics leader to step into a senior individual-contributor role for a 6-month fixed-term contract. This isn't a "grow into it" opportunity, we are looking for someone who is already operating at lead level.

You'll sit at the intersection of data, strategy and storytelling, advising our Chief Digital Officer, divisional leaders and cross-functional teams on the insights that shape real business decisions. If you love turning messy, ambiguous business questions into clear, actionable recommendations (and you can back it up with your own hands-on SQL and BI work), we want to hear from you.

Why you’ll love this role:

  • Own and deliver executive-grade analytics and insights that directly influence strategic decisions across the firm
  • Advise senior stakeholders, translating complex analysis into plain-language recommendations that stick
  • Dig beneath the surface of stakeholder requests, using consultative discovery to find the real business problem before reaching for a dashboard
  • Champion data quality and governance, promoting a "one source of truth" view across the business
  • Mentor and uplift less experienced analysts, sharing your craft without managing anyone
  • Work independently end-to-end, from framing the question, to analysis, to the recommendation that lands in front of leadership.

What you'll bring:

  • 10+ years' hands-on experience in business-facing analytics, insights, or commercial analysis. An ETL, data engineering, or IT background is welcome if paired with recent, commercial analytics and stakeholder experience
  • Recent, established experience operating at lead or principal level, advising senior stakeholders and exercising independent judgment, not stepping up for the first time
  • Strong SQL skills and confidence working with relational data
  • Hands-on experience with a modern BI tool, Power BI or Qlik preferred; Tableau or similar is fine too
  • A track record of finding the insight nobody asked for, proactively spotting risks and opportunities in the data
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to explain complex findings to non-technical, senior audiences and influence without formal authority
  • A tertiary qualification in economics, business, finance, engineering, statistics, data or mathematics, or equivalent substantial professional experience.

Our shared values represent what we stand for and guide how we act, with Courage; Compassion; Collaboration; Fairness and Tenacity.

We love that you have a life outside of work and we’re happy to support yours. We provide you a safe, supportive and collaborative environment, backed by inclusive leaders and progressive people policies, where you can be your authentic self and thrive. Here we are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive culture, enriched by differences in ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, religion, age and family arrangements. Applications from First Nations People are encouraged.

Ready to make an impact in your next six months? Apply now.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
