We are looking for a talented Customer Engineer to join our team in Scoresby, Melbourne. This entry level/early career professional, dual customer/product focused position is focused on management of product specifications and configurations for On Highway product. The role will serve as a technical liaison between the engineering team, OEM customers and key internal stakeholders including sales, marketing, local and global production. This role will also involve supporting installation quality through application of product knowledge and validation of performance to Cummins requirements through physical testing.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
- Managing product specifications and change control, communicating as required with key stakeholders.
- Building and maintaining strong working relationships with external customer and internal cross functional stakeholders
- Taking ownership of problem resolution and documenting outcomes with guidance from more experienced team members
- Working closely with Quality and Manufacturing teams to address product issues, drive root cause analysis, and support implementation of corrective actions
- Utilising proprietary engineering tools such as Advisor, Cummins OnLine Specifications (COLS), and Global Customer Engineering (GCE) to support decision-making and process efficiency
- Applying product, application, and market knowledge to support OEM product selection and equipment design
- Investigating integration and installation issues, understand root causes, and recommending appropriate actions
- Collaborating with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and Value Package Introduction (VPI) teams to gather input and align technical solutions
- Acting as a customer and market advocate within Cummins during new product development programs, design reviews, and product change processes by translating customer needs into clear functional requirements
- Supporting installation quality by validating prototype machine performance and ensuring compliance with Cummins requirements
- Executing established work processes independently while continuously developing technical and product knowledge
- Contributing to continuous improvement of systems and processes
- Actively contributing to team objectives, exhibiting influence within the team and demonstrating ongoing development in key competency areas critical to role success
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
- Tertiary qualification in Engineering (Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a relevant STEM field required), ideally with a Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Aerospace Engineering background. Early career / entry-level professionals are preferred, with internship or co-op experience.
- Strong MS Office and basic engineering tools proficiency required
- Strong attention to detail in documentation and technical accuracy
- Excellent communication, organisational and project management skills.
- Troubleshooting and strong problem-solving abilities
- Communicate technical information clearly to different stakeholders
- Enthusiasm, motivation and consistently driving for and achieving results, even under tough circumstances.
- The dedication to actively seek new ways to grow and be challenged using both formal and informal development channels.
Other highly regarded areas of success:
- Experience in automotive or heavy equipment industries would be beneficial
- Understanding and awareness of Engineering problem solving tools and processes (FTA, FMEA, 8D's, 7Steps, SixSigma, 5Why's)
- The ability to interpretate Technical Drawings & models (GD&T) AutoCAD, CREO, Inventor etc.
