The role

We are looking to hire a Content Strategist (Fashion Design) to join our team in Sydney or Melbourne.

Working at WGSN
Together, we create tomorrow

A career with WGSN is fast-paced, exciting and full of opportunities to grow and develop. We're a team of consumer and design trend forecasters, content creators, designers, data analysts, advisory consultants and much more, united by a common goal: to create tomorrow.

WGSN's trusted consumer and design forecasts power outstanding product design, enabling our customers to create a better future. Our services cover consumer insights, beauty, consumer tech, fashion, interiors, lifestyle, food and drink forecasting, data analytics and expert advisory. If you are an expert in your field, we want to hear from you.

Role overview

WGSN is strengthening its focus on Australia with dedicated, market-specific trend translation designed to reflect the unique rhythm of the region. This enhanced approach meets the need for clearer seasonal direction and focused guidance, particularly across women’s apparel and high street retail — the heart of the local market — ensuring brands receive insight that truly connects in-market.

The Content Strategist, Australia (Fashion Design) will lead this work on the ground, turning WGSN’s global fashion direction into practical, locally relevant action for clients in Australia and New Zealand. By aligning trends to climate, lifestyle, retail cadence and Southern Hemisphere seasonality, the role helps clients understand what matters most and when to move — strengthening engagement, confidence and long-term partnership value.

The team

You will partner regularly with:

- Global Fashion Design editors/strategists (Womenswear, Colour, Print & Graphics, Buying)
- Insight team (covering topics such as consumer, culture, sustainability themes)
- Regional commercial teams (Account Management, Client Success, Sales)
- Product and Marketing (to improve discoverability, packaging, and adoption)
- Senior leadership on strategic accounts

Key accountabilities

1) Australia-Specific Trend Translation (Core)
- Lead an Australia-first point of view on women’s apparel trends, anchored in the nuances of the local market and retail environment.
- Translate WGSN’s global forecasts into clear, prioritised direction for AU/NZ clients — defining what to act on, what to monitor, and when it matters commercially.
- Provide Southern Hemisphere framing, buy windows and clear “what this means for AU/NZ” guidance.

2) Content strategy and production (Fashion Design-led)
- Own the Australia Fashion Design content plan, focusing on high-value formats (colour & print, key items, buyers’ briefings, brands to watch, retail analysis).
- Produce actionable, timely content across WGSN channels and formats (articles, reports, decks and webinars) tailored to high street/non-luxury teams.
- Develop repeatable frameworks (e.g. Australia Trend Priorities, Seasonality & Retail Cadence, Local Winners & White Space).

3) Market intelligence and local credibility

- Track and interpret AU/NZ retail and consumer signals — from calendars and competitive activity to product winners, value shifts, customer behaviour, sustainability trends and active/lifestyle influence.
- Feed relevant local insights into global narratives where appropriate.

4) Client-facing impact and service enablement
- Support retention and growth through client meetings, renewals and strategic sessions.
- Deliver analyst-style presentations and webinars aligned to AU/NZ time zones.
- Equip commercial teams with clear talking points and scalable, client-ready assets.
- Reduce reliance on bespoke workarounds by creating scalable content that answers repeated client questions.

5) Cross-category and cross-team collaboration (secondary support)
- Contribute to Menswear, Insight, Buying and Active where relevant.
- Work closely with global Fashion Design teams to complement—not duplicate—global coverage with AU-specific additions

This list is not exhaustive and there may be other activities you are required to deliver.

Experience required

- Significant experience in women’s apparel within high street / commercial / non-luxury fashion, ideally spanning trend, design, buying, merchandising, or forecasting.
- Proven ability to translate trends into commercial direction (what, why, how, and when) for retail teams.
- Strong understanding of the Australian fashion retail landscape, including local climate/lifestyle drivers and Southern Hemisphere seasonal realities.
- Knowledge of Australian/NZ retail calendars and buying cycles across major categories.
- Proven content creation skills: writing, editing, structuring insight, and turning complexity into clear prioritised guidance.
- Comfortable presenting to senior stakeholders and facilitating client sessions (virtual and in-person).

Key skills and behaviours

- Trend translation & decision support: You don’t just spot trends—you help clients act on them.
- Commercial instinct: You understand how product succeeds in market (silhouette, fabrication, colour, price/value, retail timing).
- Clarity and structure: You can simplify “too many options” into a confident point of view.
- Stakeholder management: Collaborative, responsive, and able to influence across functions.
- Data and feedback fluency: You can use usage signals and client feedback to refine what you create.
- Ownership: Comfortable being the single in-market content head for Australia, prioritising ruthlessly.

Nice to have

- Familiarity with sustainability trends in women’s apparel and how they show up commercially.
- Footwear and/or activewear product understanding (given local lifestyle-led demand).
- Experience supporting B2B clients and renewal/retention outcomes through content.
- Working pattern & travel
- Predominantly Australia-based with availability for AU time-zone client work.
- Occasional travel within Australia and to New Zealand for key accounts, events, or research as needed.
- Collaboration with global teams may require flexibility for some cross-time-zone meetings.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
