Consulting Director – Datacom Australia (South Australia)

At Datacom, we help organisations navigate change and unlock the full potential of digital in an AI-changing world. In Australia, our Consulting practice is growing and we’re building a team that can shape markets, shape thinking, and shape what “good consulting” looks like, shifting the dial from a technology-led environment to a consulting-led one.

We’re looking for a Consulting Director who is equally comfortable engaging at executive and senior leadership level, leading complex client conversations, and working alongside teams in delivery to bring structure to ambiguity. This is a senior consulting practitioner role, where leadership comes through thought leadership, client impact, and the ability to model and elevate consulting craft in others.

You’ll support the Head of Consulting Australia and the AU Markets team in growing our presence in market, shaping early-stage opportunities and strengthening Datacom’s position as a consulting-led technology partner. A key part of this role is how you show up in the front end of work: framing problems, shaping thinking with clients and turning ambiguity into clear, valuable pathways forward.

You will also play a critical role in lifting consulting capability across the broader team through coaching in practice, demonstrating strong methods, and setting the standard for how we operate as consultants in market.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and shape complex client engagements across strategy, transformation and technology domains.
  • Engage with customers to frame problems, challenge assumptions and shape thinking before solutions are defined.
  • Support presales activity including value framing, solution shaping, proposal development and client presentations.
  • Partner with sales, delivery, and platform teams to build compelling value propositions and win strategies.
  • Model strong consulting craft by bringing structure, methods, and approaches to ambiguous client challenges in real time.
  • Coach and uplift consulting capability across the team through direct engagement and on the job coaching.
  • Contribute to the development of new consulting offerings and repeatable approaches aligned to market demand, including AI and digital transformation opportunities.
  • Support growth of the AU consulting practice through opportunity shaping, relationship development and hands-on engagement leadership.
  • Foster a culture of curiosity, collaboration and continuous improvement.

What We’re Looking For

  • Deep consulting experience with strong hands-on delivery in complex or transformations at scale within client environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to create structure and clarity around client outcomes and value and shape early-stage client thinking.
  • Strong presales and consulting origination capability (not just responding to defined requirements).
  • Proven ability to influence without authority and uplift others through modelling and coaching.
  • Comfortable operating across strategy, technology, and transformation conversations with senior stakeholders.
  • Strong commercial acumen and ability to identify and shape growth opportunities.
  • 10+ years’ experience in the Australian consulting or advisory market is highly desirable.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
