This role is part of the commercial team responsible for hedging and market analytics. The role involves commercial negotiations with counterparties as well as managing obligations under the various energy contracts.
The Commercial Manager also plays a key role in setting the strategy to achieve the risk appetite provided by the broader business.

Job Description

Health & Safety

  • Actively engage in ACCIONA’s Health & Safety practices, take personal responsibility for maintaining a safe and secure workplace, and support the people around you in upholding these standards.

Role Responsibilities

  • Evaluate market data from the National Electricity Market and other relevant energy markets.
  • Provide insight into current and future market trends in the electricity and related markets
  • Evaluate risk positions across the portfolio
  • Provide advice on hedging and marketing activities
  • Coordinate regular and ad-hoc reporting of market conditions and portfolio considerations.
  • Build appropriate models to analyse non-standard marketing opportunities
  • Participate in the development of energy and environmental product price forecasts.
  • Participate in hedging / contracting activities including:
    • Identify, evaluate and execute hedging / contracting opportunities to optimise and grow ACCIONA Australia’s generation portfolio.
    • Preparing marketing material for internal and external clients
    • Respond to tenders and other market opportunities
    • Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders and key external stakeholders
  • Manage the obligations under the various energy contracts
  • Assist the Physical Market Team by participating in a roster system for out of hours (weekend) market oversight
  • Relevant travel required from time to time

Required Skills and Competencies

Required

  • Tertiary qualifications in commerce, economics, finance or legal preferred.
  • Must have previous experience in the National Electricity Market, particularly in analysing the electricity and related markets.
  • Experience in environmental product markets.
  • Demonstrated commercial acumen and strategic thinking.
  • High level skills of presentation and communication and ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with counterparties and clients.
  • Self-starter with flexibility and willingness to grow with the organization.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • 5+ years post-graduate experience.

Desirable

  • Experience in a similar role, operating at both a strategic level and at a tactical level.
  • Experience in commercial structuring / negotiations with counterparties
  • Experience in risk management.
  • Post graduate qualifications.
  • Experience in working across cultures.
