The Indirect Tax Manager is part of the global Finance Team, which undertakes the finance function of all of Xero’s worldwide operations. The Tax Team is a global shared service responsible for all tax matters across the Xero Group including indirect & income tax compliance, tax accounting, transfer pricing, expatriate tax, contract reviews and any projects that may arise.
Your core focus will be to support the Head of Indirect Taxes with the management of the global indirect tax function. You will help to drive a high performance indirect compliance function, provide timely and accurate tax advice to the Xero Group, and mentor junior members of the Tax & Finance teams.
You will build strong relationships and become a trusted advisor to the business. You will be experienced in managing cross-border tax engagements, and have demonstrated the ability to manage relationships with key stakeholders, including external advisors.
What you’ll do..
- Provide oversight over the Xero Group’s global indirect tax function by giving specialist advice, performing periodic compliance reviews, and supporting the Tax Team by preparing or reviewing filings as required.
- Engage with the business by providing tax advice on indirect tax matters, as well as supporting the Finance Team and wider business with projects.
- Embed efficiencies and improvements into the Tax Team’s processes, including driving or participating in transformation projects.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including third party service providers.
- Work closely with the Finance Operations Team, Xero Billing Teams and others to ensure the accuracy of indirect tax collection and reporting.
- Ensure that Xero’s tax policies, processes and governance conform to the highest standards of accuracy.
- Mentor and support junior members of the Tax Team.
- Assist with non-indirect tax related matters as requested by your manager and the Finance Team.
What you’ll bring with you..
- At least 7 years' of relevant experience in the Tax field, either in a large corporate or Big 4 CA environment
- Be either CA / CPA qualified or a law professional
- Proven tax compliance background
- Strong knowledge of indirect tax principles and legislation, ideally across multiple jurisdictions
- Participation in or management of tax technology and transformation initiatives
- Experience working in a global indirect tax function is advantageous
- Strong planning and organisational skills with an ability to manage multiple competing priorities
- Skilled in the preparation, review and manipulation of data
- Ability to research and document relevant legislation and tax guidance
