The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Commercial Analyst with a strong Data Science focus to join our Budget & Commercial team. Reporting to the Budget and Commercial Analysis Manager, you won’t just be crunching numbers, you’ll harness big data and advanced analytics to directly influence our retail product offerings, revenue forecasting, and strategic direction. In this role, you will be the bridge between complex data science and commercial decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Drive forward-looking revenue forecasting, customer-level projections, and budgeting to ensure our commercial targets are met.
  • Support the delivery of the annual budget, Corporate Plan, and cost-to-serve analysis for the Retail group.
  • Translate complex data insights and non-financial metrics into actionable, commercial narratives for internal stakeholders and business partners.
  • Utilise big data analytics and Power BI to uncover trends across our mass market electricity portfolio, directly supporting pricing, product teams, and new product launches.
  • Be heavily involved in customer time-of-use (TOU) volume analytics to evaluate energy consumption patterns, inform new product initiatives, and optimise market strategy.
  • Take a deep dive into electricity and gas gross margins, providing the business with clear visibility on profitability and commercial levers.

What You’ll Bring

  • Advanced proficiency in SQL is essential (experience working with large, complex datasets is a must). Strong skill in Power BI and financial modeling.
  • Proven, hands-on experience in budgeting and forecasting within your career, moving beyond traditional retrospective reporting to deliver predictive insights.
  • Education: 
    • A degree in Data Science, Business Analytics, Finance, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
    • CA or CPA qualification desirable
  • Prior experience within the energy/utilities sector is highly desirable.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, adaptability, and the ability to translate technical data science insights into clear, actionable business strategies.
