The Bank views the health and safety of its people as a responsibility essential to its long-term success.  The core work of the department is to case manage workers compensation claims and associated return to work support.  This work is conducted within the context of the Bank’s early intervention system and to achieve requirements to maximise the Bank’s federal self-insurance licence (Comcare).   Workers Compensation also administers our self-insurance licence requirements and associated financial arrangements. The Bank’s Case Managers operate from Sydney – with all national workers compensation matters managed from this location.  The Bank also employees inhouse legal counsel to provide active management of litigation and internal resources for advice and assistance.

 

Do work that matters

The Case Manager will report into the Executive Manager Workers Compensation and will manage a portfolio of claims with the purpose of achieving safe, fast and durable return to work outcomes for injured workers and their line managers within the relevant legal requirements.  The Case Manager will achieve this by:

  • Making all relevant determinations (decisions) on claims as per the applicable legislative requirements;

  • Obtaining and examining all relevant information concerning the injured worker and their claim;

  • Implementing and managing effective rehabilitation programs with the view to safe, durable and timely return to work outcomes;

  • Devising and implementing an effective strategic plan;

  • Demonstrating compliance with the Bank’s processes and the applicable legal framework; and

  • Informing and engaging all relevant parties in the process and plan implementation.

 

Your Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial contact on claims to determine the rehabilitation and other support required for the injured worker and the information needed to determine the Bank’s liability for the worker’s injury

  • Initiate and co-ordinate activities to engage appropriate support (including early intervention if required) for the worker and their line manager

  • Co-ordinate activities to obtain information from all relevant parties for determination of the Bank’s liability and to formulate a proactive strategic plan

  • Record information (electronic and hard copy file) within the relevant timeframes

  • Advise relevant parties (verbally and in writing) of the claims process and their legal obligations, and responsibilities relevant to the case

  • Engage the worker, line manager and other relevant parties (including a Rehabilitation Provider) in the management of the case as appropriate

  • Participate in case conferences as required

  • Conduct regular case reviews to ensure the strategic plan remains the most appropriate

  • Determining liability in accordance with the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation (SRC) Act 1988 and all subsequent determinations for compensation

  • Regular review of claim status and liability to ensure the correct or preferable decision is maintained

  • Participate in ongoing learning to ensure up-to-date legislation and best practice is used to manage cases

  • Carry out tasks in accordance with the Bank's EEO and OH&S principles and practices and the Statement of Professional Practice

  • Case management of all workers’ compensation claims within the portfolio, according to defined processes and the relevant legislation

  • Approve all payments relevant to the case, within delegated authority

  • Escalation of the case to specialist advisers according to defined processes

  • Represent the Bank at external forums and to external authorities (ie: conciliations, compensation tribunals etc), where required

  • Undertake the function of the role of Rehabilitation Case Manager in each of the Bank’s 2 Comcare licences

 

We’re interested in hearing from people who have

  • Workers Compensation expertise relevant to the jurisdiction

  • Maintain legislative competence through ongoing development, learning and training

  • Accreditation relevant to the jurisdiction to manage workers compensation claims and co-ordinate return to work/rehabilitation functions

  • High skill level of communication

  • Conflict resolution skills and ability to Problem Solve

  • Tertiary qualification in science, allied health or business related discipline or similar experience suitable for the role is highly value
