About the role
Business Development Manager
AGL is expanding its Bioenergy team, and we’re looking for a passionate and technically‑minded Business Development Manager to help accelerate Australia’s renewable gas transition. In this role, you’ll lead the growth of Anaerobic Digestion (AD) and Biomethane solutions across agricultural, industrial, municipal and organic waste sectors. You’ll build and manage the full sales pipeline — from identifying new opportunities to shaping technically informed proposals and closing high‑value deals.
We’re looking for someone who can combine strong technical understanding (AD processes, biogas upgrading systems, renewable gas applications) with the ability to turn complex solutions into compelling value propositions for our customers.
What you will be doing:
Identify, qualify and grow AD, biogas and biomethane opportunities across key sectors, owning the full sales pipeline—from opportunity development to forecasting—while building strong customer relationships and shaping compelling technical‑commercial value propositions.
Develop strong technical capability across AD processes, feedstock considerations, biogas yield modelling, biogas upgrading technologies and renewable gas applications, working closely with engineering and delivery teams to shape projects from concept through feasibility, design and commercial structuring.
Translate complex technical information into clear, commercially compelling insights for customers, collaborating with project team to produce accurate scopes, budgets and commercial frameworks.
Prepare high‑quality proposals, concept designs and commercial offers; lead customer negotiations incorporating technical and financial elements; work with Legal, Finance, Risk and Leadership to refine terms; and ensure all opportunities meet profitability, risk and governance requirements.
Stay across AD technology trends, regulatory changes, waste‑sector developments and renewable gas incentives, identifying emerging risks and market opportunities while representing AGL Bioenergy at industry forums and events.
Coordinate closely with Bioenergy Delivery, Engineering and Functional teams to ensure smooth project progression, maintain accurate CRM records and reporting, and consistently deliver on quarterly and annual revenue and gross‑margin targets.
What we would like to see you bring:
Proven B2B sales success, selling large‑scale solutions, supported by strong commercial acumen and ability to interpret costings and business cases.
Experience developing complex technical–commercial solutions, ideally in energy, waste, industrial process, or infrastructure sectors, including originating projects from concept stage.
Strong technical understanding of Anaerobic Digestion and renewable gas technologies, including feedstock dynamics, biogas handling, and biomethane upgrading systems.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, with confidence engaging C‑suite stakeholders and producing high‑quality proposals and presentations.
Highly organised, self‑motivated and disciplined, with the ability to manage multiple complex opportunities and maintain accurate CRM‑based pipeline reporting.
What’s in It for You?
Flexible work options, including hybrid arrangements and an extra week of recharge leave annually.
Exclusive perks, such as discounts on energy, telco, and solar plans, plus novated leasing and EV subscriptions.
Support and recognition, with 20 weeks paid parental leave for primary carers, study assistance, and our Energise reward program.
Additional benefits, including share purchase plans, insurance deals, and opportunities to contribute to diversity and inclusion initiatives.
*Benefits may change over time and vary based on role type and location.
If you're ready to help position AGL as a leader in renewable gas and waste‑to‑energy innovation, we’d love to connect.
