The Business Development Manager is responsible for driving growth of the Substation Service, Modernization, and Lifecycle Management business across North America. The role focuses on identifying new business opportunities, developing strategic customer relationships, expanding market penetration, and converting installed-base intelligence into profitable service and modernization projects. You will work closely with customers, engineering, operations, field service teams, product groups, and commercial stakeholders to develop innovative solutions that address asset reliability, obsolescence, sustainability, and grid modernization challenges. The position plays a key role in supporting long-term growth while strengthening the company's position as a trusted lifecycle partner for utilities, industrial customers, and infrastructure operators.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Develop and execute business development strategies to grow the substation service and modernization portfolio.
- Identify, qualify, and advance new business opportunities within utilities, renewable energy, industrial, transportation, and commercial markets.
- Drive revenue growth through lifecycle services, retrofit projects, upgrades, replacements, repairs, and long-term service agreements.
- Build and maintain a robust opportunity pipeline to achieve annual order intake and sales targets.
- Analyze market trends, competitive activity, customer needs, and emerging technologies to identify growth opportunities.
- Establish and maintain executive-level relationships with key customer stakeholders.
- Position the organization as a trusted advisor for asset lifecycle management and modernization planning.
- Support customers in addressing reliability, performance, asset health, aging infrastructure, and obsolescence challenges.
- Lead discussions regarding lifecycle roadmaps, capital planning, risk mitigation strategies, and modernization programs.
- Utilize installed-base data, assessment reports, service history, and field feedback to identify business opportunities.
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, and product teams to develop customized technical and commercial solutions.
- Lead bid strategy development, pricing approaches, and commercial risk assessments.
- Manage opportunities through the entire sales cycle from identification to order booking.
- Support forecasting, pipeline management, and sales reporting through Salesforce or CRM tools.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, governance requirements, and commercial processes.
- Collaborate across engineering, field service, operations, finance, marketing, and business unit leadership teams.
- Share market intelligence and best practices to support continuous business improvement.
Your Background
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Power Systems, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- 8+ years of experience in business development, service sales, account management, or power industry sales leadership.
- Strong knowledge of high-voltage substations, GIS, AIS, transformers, protection & control systems, and grid infrastructure.
- Experience with lifecycle management, modernization programs, retrofit solutions, and long-term service agreements.
- Proven ability to develop strategic customer relationships and drive sustainable revenue growth.
- Strong commercial, negotiation, presentation, and communication skills.
- Experience with CRM systems and opportunity management tools.
