The world’s biggest challenge needs you, here.

Big challenges require big solutions. And the transition to a net-zero world is about as big as it gets. Working at Shell Energy - one of Australia’s leading energy retailers - puts you at the heart of that endeavour.

Lead the change, from the frontline

Are you passionate about turning business needs into smart, scalable IT solutions?

At Shell Energy, we’re looking for a Melbourne based Business Analyst who thrives at the crossroads of business and technology. Someone who can translate complex requirements into impactful systems that support our strategic goals. This role is more than just process optimization, it’s about driving continuous improvement, solving real-world problems, and ensuring seamless IT operations.

As a key player in our digital transformation journey, you’ll analyse, design, and maintain technology systems that enhance productivity and competitiveness. You’ll work closely with stakeholders across the business, acting as the vital link between vision and execution. If you're ready to make a tangible impact and help shape the future of energy, we want to hear from you.

With respect, integrity and honesty, responsibilities include:

  • Lead Strategic Analysis: Drive analytical work across projects and initiatives, applying Human-Centred Design and Design Thinking to deliver impactful solutions.

  • Bridge Business & IT: Translate business needs into technical requirements, ensuring alignment and clarity between stakeholders and delivery teams.

  • Facilitate Agile Delivery: Support Agile ceremonies, develop roadmaps and documentation, and collaborate closely with the Delivery Lead to manage team outputs.

  • Drive Change & Improvement: Identify opportunities for innovation, assess change impacts, and support effective change communication in partnership with the Change Manager.

  • Gather & Validate Requirements: Conduct workshops, document business needs, and perform data analysis to ensure solutions meet expectations.

  • Communicate & Collaborate: Maintain clear communication with stakeholders, provide project updates, and ensure shared understanding across teams.

Here’s what you’ll need to thrive in this role:

  • Technical Proficiency: Solid understanding of IT disciplines (e.g. networking, systems, databases, cybersecurity) and tools like Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps, and GitHub.

  • Project & Delivery Expertise: Proven experience supporting IT projects using Agile or Waterfall methodologies, managing timelines, resources, and cross-functional collaboration.

  • Business & Customer Focus: Ability to align IT solutions with business strategy, gather feedback, and deliver customer-centric outcomes that drive value.

  • Collaboration & Communication: Skilled in working with multidisciplinary teams and translating business requirements into technical language.

  • Data & Analytics: Familiarity with data analysis, business intelligence tools, and deriving insights to support decision-making and innovation.

  • Industry & Compliance Awareness: Knowledge of the Australian energy market, regulatory standards (e.g. GDPR, PCI DSS), and emerging technologies like AI, IoT, and cloud computing.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
