Summary Generated by Built In

Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn't work together.
So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions - to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, offer buy now, pay later functionality, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, we've embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale.
Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes - large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We're building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, and we are helping sellers worldwide do the same. .
The Role
We are looking for an Associate HRBP to provide support for our local Block team in Japan. In this role, you will partner closely with HRBPs to drive HR programs and initiatives to completion in addition to supporting regulatory responsibilities, such as employee health and stress checks, overtime tracking, and leave of absence monitoring.
You will be on the frontline collaborating with cross-functional partners to oversee and deploy projects both within specific business units and functions, as well as company-wide programs. You will also partner directly with employees and managers to answer questions, facilitate trainings, and run HR programs. Success in this role means helping HRBPs turn ideas into reality and effectively coordinating and delivering impactful People programs to drive employee engagement. You will also help innovate and improve these programs as we continue to scale.
The ideal candidate is self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership for driving work forward. You're effective at managing multiple projects at once, very detail-oriented and organized, learn quickly, and have a track record of being adaptable in a fluid, high-growth environment.

  • Partner with employees and managers in the business and resolve roadblocks to help set individuals and teams up for success.

  • Partner with internal teams to lead compliance activities within the People space
  • Collaborate with HRBPs on the delivery of local and/or global project work in support of their client groups including team reorganizations, talent reviews, team-building exercises, M&A work, and policy design.
  • Assist HRBPs in creating, preparing, and analyzing surveys and reports
  • Execute on both administrative and project-based work across various HR programs, such as the performance evaluation process, promotion cycle audits, and bi-annual Pulse surveys.
  • Build and maintain a highly effective and collaborative partnership with cross-functional teams, both locally and globally, such as HR Operations, Learning & Programs, People Analytics, Office Experience, Compensation, Benefits, Talent, IT, and Security.
  • Build expertise in HR processes and suggest changes to improve efficiency, scalability, and employee experience.
  • Complete regular audits and other necessary administrative responsibilities as needed.
  • Support with office mail distribution

You Have

  • 3-5 years of HR, operational, project management, and/or program management experience
  • Knowledge or developing knowledge of HR programs, including applicable employment laws and regulations
  • Demonstrate strong judgment, including escalation to appropriate parties for consultation as needed.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a successful track record of implementing processes that scale
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal), with an ability to build partnerships and establish rapport and credibility at all levels
  • An ability to work independently to manage multiple ongoing projects and programs with high attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Exceptional ethics around confidentiality and highly sensitive information
  • Demonstrate the ability to prioritize and adapt in a fast-paced environment with changing demands
  • Demonstrates a solution-focused approach to problem-solving, with the ability to find pragmatic outcomes
