Department Overview
You will work closely with and support the Commercial Manager (MMR), engaging with various internal functions such as Service Delivery, Operations, Finance, Legal, and Procurement teams, as well as external sub-contractors. This will provide you with valuable exposure to the intricate operational environment and business priorities. Your role will involve fostering strong working relationships and facilitating clear communication across these functions to ensure commercial alignment and effective contract management.
Job Description

The Associate Commercial Manager role offers a significant opportunity to contribute to the commercial oversight of the Metropolitan Mobile Radio (MMR) network contract. The MMR is a critical, secure digital radio network managed by Motorola Solutions on behalf of the State of Victoria, Australia, and is vital for maintaining public safety communications.

This position is ideal for an individual looking to transition into or further develop a career in commercial management. We are seeking someone with strong analytical capabilities, excellent problem-solving skills, keen attention to detail, and effective communication.

You will provide essential support to the Commercial Manager (MMR), playing a key role in identifying and analysing the commercial implications that arise from operational issues and challenges. This includes contributing to the development of effective commercial solutions and strategic responses.

Furthermore, you will assist in the development and negotiation of contract variations that contribute to the growth of the contract. Your collaboration will be key to ensuring robust contract compliance, accurate financial reporting, effective stakeholder engagement, and the successful delivery and ongoing performance of this foundational contract within a high-impact commercial environment.


Basic Requirements

 

Contract Administration and Management

  • Monitor contract performance and compliance with established terms and conditions, including those pertaining to sub-contractors.

  • Assist in the identification of key risks to contract implementation.

  • Analyse contract terms and conditions to identify potential risks and opportunities for improvement.

  • Support the Commercial Manager with the management and performance of supplier sub-contracts

  • Assist in preparing comprehensive reports and summaries related to contract performance and compliance.

  • Maintain accurate and organised records including amendments and correspondence.

Preparation of Commercial Contract Variations

  • Assist in the accurate preparation and thorough documentation of contract variations, ensuring all changes are accurately reflected and justified.

  • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to gather required information for variation requests and maintain a clear record of all variations.

Support in Negotiations

  • Participate in contract negotiations by providing relevant information, analysis and essential supporting documentation.

  • Assist in identifying areas of concern and proposing effective solutions during negotiation processes.

Financial Analysis and Management

  • Support the Commercial Manager in the financial oversight of contracts, including budget monitoring and forecasting activities.

  • Perform financial analysis related to contract performance, identifying trends, variances, and potential financial risks.

  • Prepare financial reports and summaries to provide insights into contract profitability and overall performance.

Communication and Coordination

  • Serve as a key point of contact for internal teams, addressing inquiries related to contract specifics, documentation, and ongoing performance data for MMR contracts, escalating complex or strategic matters to the Commercial Manager.

  • Process Improvement

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements within contract administration and commercial operations to enhance efficiency

Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, Commerce, or a related field.
