Our Why

Datacom works with organisations and communities across Australia and New Zealand to make a difference in people’s lives and help them to use the power of tech to innovate and grow.

About the Role

You’ll be joining Datacom’s ANZ Enterprise Application Services team as an Application Engineer, supporting and enhancing enterprise applications that are critical to customer and business operations. In this role, you’ll work across application support, configuration, integration, and continuous improvement activities, helping ensure solutions are reliable, secure, and fit for purpose.

This role will suit someone who enjoys solving application and system challenges, working closely with stakeholders, and providing practical support and consultancy across enterprise platforms. You’ll be part of a collaborative team, helping translate business needs into effective application outcomes while contributing to stable operations and service improvement.

Experience with Endpoint Remote Support and Software Asset Management platforms would be valuable, and so would any familiarity with the supporting application integrations, security enhancements, and operational components such as agents and beacons.

We like to bring people together in person when we can, but we also recognise the benefits of working from home for work/life balance. We leave it to you and the team you join to decide what works best!

What You’ll Do:

As an Application Engineer, you will be focused on:

  • Solution development and configuration – design, build, configure, and maintain product changes that meet business and customer needs.
  • Quality and testing – make sure changes are properly tested, reliable, and ready for release.
  • Deployment and release support – support the movement of changes across environments in line with agreed practices and change controls.
  • Documentation and knowledge sharing – keep technical documentation up to date and contribute to shared knowledge and team improvement.
  • Continuous improvement and emerging practices – help improve engineering ways of working, including the use of automation, AI-assisted development, and agentic practices.

We are an agile company and are keen to respond to changing customer, technology, and internal stakeholder needs — which means our roles can evolve over time to meet those needs.

What You’ll Bring

Required experience and skills:

  • 2+ years’ experience in application support, application consulting, systems support, or a closely related technical delivery role
  • Experience supporting enterprise applications in a structured delivery or operational environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with good attention to detail
  • Ability to gather, interpret, and work with business and application requirements
  • Understanding of application support processes, testing, deployment, and change controls
  • Experience working with application configuration, administration, and operational support
  • Good understanding of security, access controls, and enterprise application support best practices
  • Ability to work collaboratively in large, cross-functional teams
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to balance competing priorities
  • A strong sense of ownership and pride in delivering quality product outcomes
  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience

Nice to Have

  • Experience with TeamViewer and BeyondTrust Remote Support, including remote access, session management, endpoint connectivity, troubleshooting, and user support
  • Experience with Flexera Software Asset Manager for application support, third-party integration, security enhancement, and agent and beacon support
  • Experience working in a Tier-2 Service Provider, managed services, or enterprise support environment
  • Exposure to enterprise application integration and vendor-supported platforms
  • Familiarity with IT service management practices such as incident, problem, and change management
  • Exposure to agile delivery practices such as Scrum or Kanban

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
