Your New Role

The role has been created to support the growing demand for timely, high-quality reporting and analytics, driven by increasing portfolio scale and complexity as member assets grow and internal investment strategies continue to expand.

This is a permanent role based in Melbourne.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Sourcing, processing and loading portfolio data into analytics and risk systems, including MSCI Barra, ensuring data is accurate, timely and consistently maintained across platforms;
  • Sourcing, processing and transforming data for reporting and visualisation tools, including PowerBI, while maintaining accurate and efficient data structures and identifying opportunities for enhancement;
  • Maintaining and enhancing recurring reports across agreed deliverable formats, independently resolving data and reporting issues, and providing timely outputs to stakeholders;
  • Designing and delivering ad hoc reports across agreed deliverable formats to address stakeholder requirements;
  • Monitoring portfolio exposures, performance and risk using investment applications, identifying key drivers, and responding to stakeholder queries in a clear and timely manner;
  • Conducting scenario and what-if analysis to support portfolio construction decisions;
  • Supporting the preparation of periodic and ad hoc papers for internal committees, and recording accurate minutes from committee meetings;
  • Assisting with day-to-day portfolio management activities and coordinating with internal teams to support effective implementation of investment decisions.

What You’ll Need

  • Sound understanding of equity investment concepts, including portfolio performance and risk measures, portfolio construction frameworks, style factors and key macroeconomic return drivers;
  • Advanced ability to analyse, interpret and manipulate data using tools such as Python and Excel, and proficiency in using Python to automate data processing, and reporting workflows;
  • Proficiency in developing clear data visualisations and presentation materials, particularly in PowerBI;
  • Strong attention to detail, with a focus on accuracy, consistency and quality across all outputs;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with colleagues across the Investments department;
  • Tertiary qualification in Finance, Economics or a related quantitative discipline, such as Mathematics or Computer Science;
  • CFA charterholder status or progress towards CFA accreditation would be advantageous;
  • Prior experience in a fund-of-funds management environment would be advantageous along with a strong understanding of financial instruments, particularly equity derivatives;
  • Familiarity with equities risk systems would be preferred;
  • Demonstrated capability to write effective AI prompts to support data management, transformation and quality assurance.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
